Deer tick nymph season is upon us (Virginia)
First time in Asheville, and it was such an awesome/quirky experienceβ beginning with a troll art walk through the Arboretum

βAs a result of these changes, engine and vehicle manufacturers no longer have any future obligations for the measurement, control, and reporting of GHG emissions for any highway engine and vehicleβ
It surely is Friday the 13th.
Graphic showing changes in COβ, global temperatures and global sea levels over the last 2025 years. Steep increases are visible after the industrial revolution.
Updated climate indicators graphics, now including 2025

Happy #WomenInScience day!
Some Virginia Tech sunshine βοΈ
Happy World Wetlands Day!
Final chapter of my dissertation sent out to coauthors π₯Ή Now to impatiently wait for my defense date
ChatGPT has a year in review, and it somehow made the chaos of my coding and modeling questions look lovely.
In 2019, I was βThe Tick Chickβ. In 2026, βthe Wetland Whispererβ. Iβll take it!
Today I learned that if you type -AI alongside your Google search, it will give you your search without the automatic AI generated answer π
I can only imagine how much energy/water this saves, esp when I never even wanted the AI response in the first place
#AGU25 poster session! Simulating microbial activity in a freshwater wetland: a novel field and process-based modeling approach π¦ π»
Paper submission coming soon!
Little bit of NOLA tourism βΊοΈ #AGU2025
This is so meaningful to me as an environmental scientist who cares deeply for planetary health. I hope that I can continue to find ways to be gentle on our environment like Dr. Francis.
Absolutely moved by the #AGU25 plenary speaker, Dr. John Francis.
Following a massive oil spill, Dr. Francis gave up driving in cars, opting to walk everywhere, including crossing the country multiple times to get to and from University. He gave up speaking, choosing to listen insteadβ¦
Thought I would get to the talk on time if I arrived at the center 10 mins early. Was 20 mins late and now have shin splints
#AGU25 started with so many wonderful oral talks about Arctic permafrost/ carbon cycling and ended with a side quest into the swamp π
Boreal forest stream running through the forest. Temperature logger, leaf litter collection basket, and pitfall trap in the foreground.
I'm recruiting a #PhDstudent ! Deadline Feb 10th!

If youβre interested in sustainable farming research, check out this fully funded masterβs degree opportunity!
Had a great time giving a lecture on Environmental Journalism at Montana State! This has been a growing passion of mine, and Iβm excited for the opportunity to tell other students about it as well βοΈ
Nobody tells you what it feels like to register for that single final research credit for your PhD program.
Itβs absolutely incredible. βοΈ
First time seeing the wild ponies in the Grayson Highlands/ Mt Rogers. We have snow at the highest point in VA now!
AGU poster accepted! Come visit me!
Title: A Processed-based Modeling Approach for Simulating Microbial Activity in a Temperate Freshwater Wetland
Apple harvest season in Virginia π₯° Really hanging onto Peak Leaf as much as possible
Oh my god πI appreciate you so much for sending this, thank you! Just shared with my whole lab.
This is just as amazing as when I was studying ticks and John Oliver did a segment on the white footed mouse/lyme disease. Incredible
More lantern fly samplingβ egg masses are out!
First time on the Blue Ridge Parkway and in the Pisgah National Forest ππ
Our research on Seneca Lake has been featured in the New York Times! Check it out! @benuveges.bsky.social @nytimes.com
Not a bad day to collect/count lanternflies!
