No, it’s not about ‘Semites' But its a surprisingly common fallacy

🧵The excellent @rachelshabi.bsky.social in piece explaining that antisemitism is, actually, and always has been, a term that describes Jew-hating specifically, despite the term 'Semite' being in there: rachelshabi.substack.com/p/no-its-not...

‘You have a credibility problem if you’re falling at this first hurdle. Put simply: potential allies won’t trust you as reliable narrators on what antisemitism is not, if they cannot trust you to know what antisemitism actually is.’

Imo what is happening on x is that the algorithm loves racist and anti semitic content, and the people who are on there marinate in it all day, and the epstein files has offered an excuse for even left identified people to indulge in the trangressive pleasure of public bigotry as a little treat

Claiming Gaza is a 'sectarian' issue is both blatantly racist & blind to why we all care about Gaza. As new Green MP Hannah Spencer said last night 'Whether its on our doorsteps or across the world, if somebody is being oppressed or suffering an injustice, I will always speak up'

The UK’s Epstein Crisis If Keir Starmer is safe for now, it’s only for lack of alternatives within his party.

"Starmer promised stability, service over spectacle and a government of national renewal. Instead, we got the muddle of endless U-turns, persistent stagnation in the absence of joined-up, large-scale strategy and now, a full-blown crisis"

It took just 18 months for the Labour government to sink into the sand of its own morally adrift vacuity.

Maccabi Tel Aviv - again In which our politicians sided with football hooligans and against police chiefs

As a resident of Birmingham, I would like to thank @rachelshabi.bsky.social for writing this balanced and clarifying piece about Birmingham's Macabi Tel Aviv fiasco.

Maccabi Tel Aviv - again In which our politicians sided with football hooligans and against police chiefs

"If you wanted seriously to tackle antisemitism, which is frighteningly on the rise globally, you would not go about it like this." Excellent from @rachelshabi.bsky.social on the political class's continued ignorant opportunism around Villa v Maccabi Tel Aviv

An excellent piece that acknowledges that the West Midlands Police made mistakes, that there was antisemitic violence in Amsterdam, and that despite both of these facts, the case for banning Maccabi Tel Aviv fans was - to use a footballing term - very clear and very obvious.

Thank god for @rachelshabi.bsky.social one of the few commentators with a consistent anti-racist voice - including a strong critique of the left's failures on anti-semitism - who I trust.

The Mamdani masterclass on antisemitism For the left, New York mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani’s approach offers important lessons

Team Mamdani recognised that antisemitism claims could have serious repercussions and did not assume they would be irrelevant to his electability. This approach offers a compelling model for others to follow

Team Mamdani’s strategy over antisemitism was smart, sensitive and effective. It was grounded in universalism and a shared humanity. It worked. And it could work elsewhere too.

The Maccabi Tel Aviv derangement syndrome of Britain's political class How do progressive antiracists respond?

UK government tried to override police assessments – thereby exposing British Muslims to racism – and made violently racist Israeli football fans synonymous with Jewish. If you wanted to tackle antisemitism, you sure as hell wouldn't go about it like this

Once the Israeli hostages are out, Netanyahu and his far right coalition will absolutely want to resume their assault on Gaza. Will Israel’s Western backers and facilitators stop him? Will Israelis mount mass protests? Because that’s what it will take

Israel's genocidal war on Gaza - two years of hell on earth for Palestinians - could have ended at any time with pressure from the US president. There is no safe and peaceful future without justice, without accountability, without freedom for Palestinians

Manchester attack, antisemitism and the far-right outrage machine The attack on a Manchester synagogue on Yom Kippur was bad enough - and then came the far-right's noxious political appropriation of it
