Advice for my fellow early-career researchers: repeated requests for detailed feedback, methods, or specialist knowledge are contributions. Informal idea exchange is fine, but ideas and expertise deserve credit. Without early ethical authorship discussions, this risks becoming exploitation.

I had a great experience this weekend talking with a group of 11-year-old kids through @skypeascientist.bsky.social. They presented their project for the First Lego League competition, and they really did their homework! So happy to see the next generations enthusiastically engaging with our field🦾
When I get frustrated with academia, I remember that Saramago wrote: “In the end, we always arrive at the place where we are expected.”
Honestly, I hope that place isn’t another “this meeting could have been an email.” Because at this point, all side-quests are leaving me no time for the main quest!

Considering the EAA’s contradictory statements and its position of holding volunteers responsible for limiting free speech, shaming the professional class, I will not present this year, will not renew my membership, and call for the Executive Board’s resignation.
