Happy to see this #overdoseprevention kiosk at South Station. Less happy to see it empty. @mbta.com
How do we make the transit #publichealth resource model more sustainable?

Do the people who think chatbots are alive also worry that popcorn is angry at them because it's so loud?

The questionable:
Does execution always meet expectations? I've walked by this machine a few times. On one occasion, it was out of service. Another, it only had a few items left. How do we evaluate goals vs success? π‘
The good:
π 24/7 access: no need to visit a clinic during hours of operation
π³ Outdoors: no need to interact with people to get what you need. This helps work around shame/stigma and language barriers
π΅ Free: lower access barrier

Thoughts?
"Even as a rising death toll stokes compassion and newfound resolve, gaping holes remain in the systems set up to combat the crisis β nowhere more visible than here. As more and more people stumble along the sidewalks of Methadone Mile each morning, those holes seem harder than ever to patch."
4) It might seem small, but paywalls matter. This article doesnβt have one and an important community story is therefore accessible beyond subscribers.
3) This doesn't need to be framed as a crime story. Stories about survival, loss, recovery, and realities of policing are necessary to understanding the full picture.
2) Methadone doesn't have enough coverage in local media. We often focus on fatality over the realities of treatment and detox, good and bad.Β Letβs talk more about methadone and Suboxone.
1) Data often dominates the overdose story. The Globe puts a face to the issue by profiling Bostonians undergoing treatment, a needed change to βotheringβ by policymakers.
