I was raised in part in Europe on some of those bases. This is a sad time in our history when the US quits being an ally and becomes an aggressor.
My heart is heavy.
That work continues to be taken on by average citizens. Let me know if you want to be a Vote Protector or help organize for non-Trumpy candidates. You can do this work from your home. You decide how much time you want to spend on the tasks.
Word started coming into our space about what was happening. The volunteers who entered that shift were all shell shocked and stunned.
I jumped in and said this is exactly why we do the work we do. We are protecting the voices of Americans!
I will never forget what I was doing:
I was part of the team leading phone banks curing ballots for Georgia. We had been doing this work since late November. Team Relentless is what we called ourselves.
We had been at it all day. We had a brief chance to catch our breath between shifts.

Many of my friends like to share where they were when the towers fell. We were victims of a senseless attack on that day.
5 years ago our entire country was a victim of another attack and the call quite literally came from within the house… you know which house.

In the 90’s there was a subtle shift in the people around me. There was a push by some towards Christian Dominionism. There has been push back from some like me.
The military moves its forces and families every few years or so. I have sought comfort from chaplains when my life was uprooted. The help I got there was so much more effective than any therapist I saw while a military family member.
I was raised in the military and spent most of my adult life in the military lifestyle.
I served as a Distinctive Faith Group Leader for Pagan and Wiccan and Earth Based Religions for the USAF.
Over a decade later I am still giving comfort, support, and guidance to a some. My life was enriched too.
