I was looking for refences in this paper we wrote, comparing the effects of behavioural differences and social feedback in collective movements, when I realised we added faces to the monkeys! Completely forgot about that 😂 they are only visible if you zoom in the pdf.

Just attended these talks from NatGeo Explorers in Asia, and was amazing! Really wonderful to see the work they are doing, and there was a broad range of topics. From biologging data in penguins to a sociological study in Gaza.
indeed! We use real-time video tracking to automatically trigger Manuel, the robot heron 🤖, when the fish enters a specific zone (red). This way we can analyse the escape reaction in detail without bias.

Honestly, I had some weird and frustrating experiences with journals, but never like this. Maybe collaborators and I have been too lucky until now, and this is standard behaviour.. I hope not.
At this stage, handling editor and editor insist in the value of the study.
✅ Revision round 3: Two new reviewers and a second handling editor are added.
Rev. 3 loves the study, rev. 4 highlights several issues, mostly nonsense (only a couple of minor issues are arguable and easy to fix).
👉 submission stage: Reviewer 1 and 2 find study interesting and sound, but needs revision. Handling editor praises the work and design.
☑️ Revision round 1: Rev. 1 is happy, suggesting minor edits & rev. 2 asks additional analyses.
☑️ Revision round 2: rev. 2 is happy, only minor grammar edits.
Had the most unprofessional experience ever with a British Eco Soc journal. Long story short:
✅ Handling editor + 3 reviewers love the study. At round 3 of revisions, only minor details, a 4th reviewer claims a bunch of nonsensical flaws.
❌ Editor rejects paper. 9 months wasted.

This app is 100% privacy-friendly, files are kept local, user can add their own card decks with a simple click. So far, vocabulary is very limited, but I will add more in the future.
Also, it can be customised for studying any language - or any subject such as history facts or technical terms.
I noticed there aren't many free tools to learn Catalan from English (except YouTube). The apps are full of Ads, or use Spanish/Catalan as main language (Duolingo), or are too complicated for beginners (gencat). Thus, I created this flashcards app: iplanass.github.io/study-flashc... (in progress)

What's the #weather like in #Japan? 3 months of summer (= burning sun, 90% RH, +30C at night), two weeks of nice weather (happening now!) followed by typhoons and a super dry winter. Then, two weeks of nice weather again, before rainy season & back to summer.

Totally agree. I'd say python too. It's broadly used nowadays, quite fast, freely available and lots of info online. Although if code runs fine with R, it's a perfect valid choice.
