Image of the schedule for a seminar that says CAMPAIGNING FOR REFUGEE AND MIGRANT RIGHTS IN A NEW AGE OF RACISM SATURDAY, 28 FEB 2026 11.45 am Tea/coffee, light refreshments 12 pm - 1.15 pm A New Dark Age? The appeal of the right-wing on race and refugees. It seems extraordinary that in 2026, race and ethnicity remain a key aspect of politics in many countries. Yet right-wing politics, in particular, has based itself on fear of foreigners, migrants and refugees and on opposition to multiculturalism. In Trump's USA, anti-immigration has become a major battlefield and a key part of the MAGA movement. Nigel Farage, on a similar basis, has put his Reform Party in a potentially winning position in the UK. The Alternative for Germany has become the second most popular party in Germany and many other governments and political parties have built on racist foundations. In Australia, anti-immigration marches and major leaders have made immigration and multiculturalism a political battlefield. The question is who is buying their arguments and why? Is this a new dark age? Speaker: John Minns 1.15 pm - 2 pm Lunch 2 pm - 3 pm Building an activist campaign - some things we've learnt along the way. A panel of RAC activists discuss what we've learnt over the last years. Some of the things we've learned about how to build a campaign are not always intuitive. Questions which might be addressed include: what is an appropriate structure for a campaign; how to mobilise in different constituencies;, the role of mass protests; direct action; who are audience is; shaping the message; outlining an alternative; intellectual and emotive messages; making protests and other activity non-boring; social media in the campaign; protests to lift the spirit; the place of lobbying; "selling" activism and much more. 3pm Thank You and Drinks ANU: ROOM HA GO52 #REFUGEESWELCOME WWW.REFUGEEACTION.ORG

Let's build on the anti-racist momentum with the rally we've called against Labor's deportations on Saturday 21 March, 2pm at the State Library.
Canberra! This Saturday!
Almost a decade of Liberals & four years of Labor not addressing cost of living, housing or poverty (while expanding their own investment properties) and now Australia is flirting with a chaotic self-serving, time-serving, perk-enjoying political party whose only policy is to blame new Australians.
A must-read article on Labor's deportation regime by Sanmati Verma, Josephine Langbien and James Clarke.

No, Tom.
The biggest factor distorting "debate" is a mainstream media all too ready to report Hanson uncritically.
You mention in passing that the Canberra press gallery will need to adjust how they treat her.
But why are they not calling out her racism and toxicity now, as they did 30 years ago?
Out in central Melbourne tonight promoting our forum against racism.
