this guy was under every post about "green buge", writing "katydid" in caps, seems he couldn't take it anymore, this is probably how it feels when a hyper niche interests gains traction
i know
its not under my post
i get it...
A wooden sculpture of anomalocaris. The style is very cute and round.
Wooden sculpture of anomalocaris (i think) by Kobo Nishioka that I also got at wonfes! Itโs just so cuteโฆ.
My green buge and pins finally arrived
Bought a little giraffe weevil pin from @fossilforager.bsky.social awhile ago and I had to get some friends for it
A digital drawing of a brown stick grasshopper insect. It has two green eyes, two short antenna and looks ahead. Its head is triangular almost in shape.
A character reference sheet. The drawing is done digitally. The reference sheet shows a brown stick grasshopper insect with six legs, two green eyes and two brown short antenna. He looks happy and is waving with one front arm. There are two other drawings near by showing other facial expressions he has.
This is Walter. He is an unspecified species of stick grasshopper, Proscopiidae.
I don't think I've ever shared him before here so here he is in all his glory.
Walter.

A bright green katydid with wing buds. Her legs are spiny, has an ovipositor, and the pronotum is lined in white.
Front view of the katydid. It has a blocky, stout head.
Happy #invertefest! I was going to tell everyone how much I love this beautiful Pseudophyllus titan I got, unfortunately she refused to eat and passed away today ๐ thatโs just how bug keeping goes, isnโt it?
A female scorpionfly sits on the leaf covered ground with a tiny Santa hat on her head.
A metallic blue fly sits on a leaf with a Santa hat on.
A red bush cricket sits among the plants with a Santa hat on.
A green sharpshooter leafhopper sits on a leaf with a Santa hat on.
Merry Christmas! ๐๐ As such, I'm required to provide photos of insects wearing Santa hats.
Whether you celebrate or not, I hope you have a wonderful day!
holy shit she just finished eating a large ass apple slice i'd never thought she would finish
like wow it's getting destroyed and there's almost nothing i can do
reading about pre-historic ecosystems because learning about modern ones makes me depressed
my modest collection of flies with WIDE heads ๐
a hammer-headed Richardia (Ecuador),
a stalk-eyed Chaetodiopsis (Mozambique),
a pointy-eyed Ophthalmoptera (Colombia),
and an antlered Richardia (Colombia)
why though? male-male competition? sexual selection? chime-in if you know!
Macro photo in side view of a large antlike insect that is shiny metallic blue with bright orange legs and large eyes, standing on a pure white background. The body segments are quite clearly demarcated, giving a slightly wormlike appearance.
Macro photo in top view of the same insect running through the bark litter on a forest floor.
Finally got some photos of Australiaโs โblue antโ, Diamma bicolor, which is not an ant at all but a shockingly large metallic blue thynnid wasp, wingless and solitary, that hunts mole crickets. Been meaning to shoot this thing for years.
You're currently looking at fungus (specifically Gibellula alata) emerging from a spider. Right now, there are only six observations of this species on iNaturalist!

Day 24 of #InsectAdvent and the flying reindeer have arrived!
Oh no they havenโtโฆ
Itโs a Ricardia sp (Richardiidae) that I collected from Honduran Cloud Forest, one of the many species of antlered flies.

i dont care how much ppl on twitter complain about bluesky being boring because it's the absolute opposite for bugs, all the content posted there is authentic and not recycled uncredited pinterest-flickr slop
Buccaspinea cooperi, a hurdiid radiodont from the Cambrian of Utah, known for its large oral-cone mouth that makes up nearly a quarter of its body length.
