Ate there often when I lived in New York, but then also became a place I *always* went when I visited.
But MM sounded fantastic on CD—punchy, crisp, not overworked, AWESOME. I was amazed when I heard it.
Rest in Peace, Bob Power.
A thing that always stunned me was just how good the *CD* of Midnight Marauders sounded.
Early ‘90s was a rough time for albums: the vinyl at that point was crammed onto a single piece of wax, barely making it above noise floor; and the CDs were just thin and wimpy.
Good years for 12” versions…

Truly one of the more exhausting features of this era is journos/pundits offering their best-case scenarios for whatever issue is at hand. Is it the “political climate” NPR? I don’t know. Seems like ICE raids, Kavanaugh Stops, and 100 minutes of racist invective from the president cheered on by half of congress aren’t things adequately captured by the term “political climate.”

I remember as a teenager picking up the first LP just out of curiosity over the cover and the name.
This reminds me of this little felted cat I once saw in the window of a yarn store during a meandering evening stroll in Tokyo many years ago. Like: maneki neko pose, but fierce/angry expression. Wished I could go back during the day to see if it was for sale, but couldn’t remember the route.
