Also, thanks for letting me host the glow party karaoke π for the sake of everyoneβs dignity no videos shall be shared here, but I think everyone had plenty of fun and it was a much needed sense of relief for our little corner of the science universe
After the GRS, I was lucky to stay for the Bioorganic Chemistry GRC, chaired by Denise Field and @doc-jlmeier.bsky.social. This meeting is truly one of my favorite weeks of the year, and as every year, I learned so much and left the meeting so inspired in my own science!
Massive thanks to our keynote speaker, @mbogyo.bsky.social, and our career panelists Prof. JP Maianti, @ritastrack.bsky.social, and Dr. Ziad Ganim as well for sharing your science and safe words of wisdom throughout the meeting. We were so happy to have you at the GRS!
Last week, I had the privilege of chairing the Bioorganic Chemistry GRS with my amazing co-chair @zhilindseylin.bsky.social. Thank you to all of our amazing speakers, poster presenters for a truly incredibly GRS!
Image showing all ~$2 billion in grants terminated at Harvard, highlighting the many terminated grants that were focused on training and career development
This is an excellent article on the termination of all federal funding at Harvard.
This visualization shows all of the terminated programs that were supposed to train the next generation of scientists.

Can confirm itβs new this year (or at least hasnβt been done for the last two years).
We are trying to post printouts of job ads in the vestibule of the conference center! So if anyone wants us to advertise post doc positions, please let us know so we can make them public!
We are happy to seek 3 post-docs across Edinburgh Napier, Glasgow & UCL in an exciting project to investigate mechanisms linking glial ageing/longevity & neurodegeneration (MRC-funded). Info attached @nathanwoodling.bsky.social

Heading to the Biorganic GRC tomorrow! I will be on a GRS career panel and will be representing both Nature Methods and Nature Chemistry as an editor! Pitch me your papers!!
During my recent Europe trip, I kept getting asked why we are not in the streets every day protesting. Here is your chance, San Diego. Join us today at noon. I will give brief remarks. See you at UCSD.

I worry that not enough of a big deal is being made about how long-term the devastation of these budget cuts to our scientific and health agencies will be, beyond the absolute ruin they will cause in the acute period.
Please repost: We have a postdoc position in Antifungal Immunity Research available to study T cell responses and fungal sensitization in atopic dermatitis. @lableibundgut.bsky.social @neil-gow.bsky.social @mrccmm.bsky.social

Bioorganic GRC is set! I got tired of the lack of swag so made a couple of unofficial tees. Order one if you want to support the conference (or simply enjoy strange looks in grocery stores).

I wrote something to say that scientists cannot afford to be 'apolitical'
Scientists actually have the skills and the duty to join in the fight against authoritarianism

"If Iβm told to build a computer, I am trained to first ask how fast it needs to operate, not how it will be used. If Iβm told to build a highway, I am trained to first ask how many cars need to fit on it, not how many people will be displaced by its path."
I don't think I posted about this yet. COME WORK WITH US AT NATURE METHODS! This is a rare opportunity, and we can't wait for our new colleague. Feel free to contact me with questions.
Which rep did you call? Similarly live in a blue district and want to ensure the calls I make are actually useful.
I fundraised for the Alzheimerβs Association when I ran the Chicago marathon. Proud of this organization for standing up for the science and for the NIH.
