“A DOJ source told the Miami Herald that agents found her to be credible—and that they would not have interviewed her four times if they thought she was lying.”

I didn't grow up with any Native American traditions beyond a knowledge of Penobscot and Mi'kmaq ancestry. But some Native stories, like the latest Secretly Incredibly Fascinating about Jim Thorpe, with @alexschmidty.bsky.social and @joeytainment.bsky.social, hit in a nostalgic way I can't explain.

it says a lot about us, none of it good, that we chose a leader with not a single redeeming quality: stupid? yup. corrupt? absolutely. dishonest? to his core. violent? maybe the most violent ever. any ability to empathize with people? none. baseline level of regard for human life? not even a skosh.
Having grown up a white kid in the Jim Crow south, I’d now say that pretty much was slavery, though I didn’t start to understand that until my early teens.
the NYT op-ed editor commissioned the executor of jeffrey epstein's estate to write for the paper eight times in 2025
One of my favourite sides of politics/media.
I don't think people's problem with, for example, the paper's decade-long crusade putting a big ol' target on trans people's backs can be accurately described as NYT doing "reporting that doesn't always 100% accord with what advocacy groups want."
Yeah, by now I'm pretty immune to that kind of manipulation from pro-war ghouls
Fitting that in America’s final form, the epicenter of evil will be a private golf resort for wealthy pedophiles.
things every single republican president of your lifetime has done

To any Democrat who ever said about any issue, "Maybe if we agree with Republicans just this far, they'll stop there," remember that you were wrong, it was obvious at the time, and you really should never believe that again about any issue, ever.

Scientists theorize a “wet McCartney”
It was on this day in 1943 that George Harrison was harvested, fully formed, from the sea (pictured here) and so we celebrate his “birthday”.
Just tell him he’s great, thank you
The science doesn’t seem so settled after all, and it’s important to understand what happened here. The approach of left-of-center Americans and our institutions — to assume that when a scientific organization releases a “policy statement” on a hot-button issue, that the policy statement must be accurate — is a deeply naïve understanding of science, human nature and politics, and how they intersect. At a time when more and more Americans are turning away from expert authority in favor of YouTube quacks and their ilk — and when our own government is pushing scientifically baseless policies on childhood vaccination and climate change — it’s vital that the organizations that represent mainstream science be open, honest and transparent about politically charged issues. If they aren’t, there’s simply no good reason to trust them.
This is anti-vaxx logic. It is not "naive" to accept the conclusions of experts in technical fields.
