Pensioners have earned their rest. But if we have to decide how to spend 10.5 billion, I'd rather us build some new hospitals to keep the elderly healthier for longer rather than giving out free money, or ensure their grandkids can learn in schools with roofs that don't leak.

Personally, free money from the Government is a good thing and we should do more of it in the form of a universal basic income funded by a land value tax. This would do far more to fix inequality in the UK than giving £10.5 billion in unfunded cash handouts.

Like, it's made quite clear that the state pension is a benefit. It's not a right and never should be treated as such. It's a benefit with one purpose: to prevent pensioner poverty. It is not a replacement for financial planning, it's to ensure that retirees aren't freezing or not eating.

Isn't the whole point of it in the UK to ensure that there's enough daylight in the mornings for people to get to work safely and for kids to get to school safely?
