@matthewhughes.bsky.social Appreciated the manifesto very much. Thanks for writing it.
So was I
Former friend, surely!
To acknowledge the ways AI systems are changing does not buy into hype, it sharpens the precision of critical thinking about their impacts. To make sense of what AI does to people, you also need to understand what it does for them, writes Eryk Salvaggio.
This was very good. Thanks for capturing the current critical moment, @eryk.bsky.social
Is this just another hype cycle you can ignore until it dies off? Maybe. But our sense is that this one's gonna be different.

"Doing harm at scale requires infrastructure." So good, from @johnathan.bsky.social @shappy.bsky.social I always read World's Best Newsletter, but this one I am going to save and reread. mailchi.mp/rawsignal/yo...

If you manage people, and you don't read @rawsignal.ca's newsletter... well, that's probably fine but you definitely should start.

Laauraaaaaa! Thank you 🫶🏻
We need to acknowledge that the fake-it-and-hope-no-one-notices approach to management is having a real moment right now.

WE DID IT 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
For @msnownews.bsky.social, I wrote an article about how ICE Watch is grounded in sociological theories of violence prevention.
The reality is that most men will only commit public violence in extremely specific scenarios and ICE Watch disrupts the conditions necessary for escalation.
Something folks can do in the coming weeks is to organize Ice Watch Training in your communities. There's an excellent resource that can help you to do this: docs.google.com/document/d/1... - Get five people together in person or virtually and get skilled up together.
Anyway. Here for *allllll* the sharp journalists unafraid to write pieces that are even obliquely critical of Canadian tech. If you have others I should be reading more, lmk. (Don't say @catherinemcintyre.bsky.social or @betakit.com, those are the gimmes)
(There are lots of others you should be reading, too! It's not zero sum! Don't be all twitter about this!)
Gotta say, if you are in Canadian tech, @aleksagan.bsky.social is someone you should be reading more.
Love a missing-tooth grin and a dedication to clear project roles ❤️❤️
(If you haven’t read @weirdwriter.caneandable.social.ap.brid.gy’s piece about that feeling, well, sharing it here — sightlessscribbles.com/the-coloniza... )
Hey. Hey.
Hey. Northern hemisphere folks. You made it.
Tomorrow the days start getting longer again. ❤️
Liz this is so kind and thank you!
Toronto go see the sunrise right now if you can ❤️
This is the most human piece I've read in a long time. Highly recommend taking a break and sitting with it for a while.
