It basically repeats the post, don't worry about it.
The podcast is back! This week on Make Games, Drink Coffee, I spoke with @natloh.bsky.social about game design, leadership, masking, and the need for regular game developers for have a seat at the proverbial table when big companies decide how (and if) to use AI.

Anyone else notice how bad Google Docs auto-correct has gotten lately. Sometimes it ignores typos and other times the word is changed into something completely unrelated to the current sentence. "Commiting" becomes commuting instead of committing. "Suprressing" becomes "Superceding" ??? I blame AI
Does anyone have a clever pun or caption for this image? Cat-ra-oke? Meowtallica? "And I'm feeeeeeeeeline good"
I finally got a perfect score in Dungeon Sweeper on my lunch break.
True story.
Intuition/vibes sans experience is called guessing.
Are there any fictional worlds that use the metal Jabronium?
Feels like the genre should be as wild as the patch notes. Existential Cow games. We've managed to live with the "in-the-know" rogue-lite genre label. We'll survive Existential Cow games.

If you missed my GDC talk with Monica Fan, Scott Fine, Damien Crawford, Jakub Kasztalski, and Joe Quadara, it is now up on the vault in the free content category! My topic was systemic complexity. Let me know if I missed something.

You could say your shirt is quite epic. What a story. It's on task.
You'd love to work with them but the reality is those types of studios are built over time. 1/1000 attempts might get you a magic team that just meshes perfectly together but those are harsh odds.
Teams like From Software, Insomniac Games have decades of storming, forming, norming, and can focus on performing.
If the current entire team has not shipped a game together, you're taking on a risk and the budget/scope should be lower than if you are looking to fund their 3rd game where a lot of opportunity lies.
If you're a publisher or VC partner and your team score formula is only "total years of experience" x "total shipped games" you're missing out on a key factor that could spell doom. "Total games shipped together."
Virtual hello. I made it to the meetup but the boss encounter had more adds than anticipated.
Glad to have survived the #gdc2025 con plague.
UX design does come from war, no? Human-machine interaction (HMI) to make planes easier to fly and such, no?
Dense and full of good information / resources. If you are considering a multiplayer / GaaS title and this article sounds wild / foreign to your ears, maybe reconsider that game, scope down, or hire a consultant to guide you through your design. I'm sure a lack of social design has ended some games.

I think I know this exact display shelf...
@johnaustin.bsky.social proposed an amendment to my flavors of complexity examples that I like with Outerwilds moving into a Explorative Complexity category (+the Witness, Runic) and Disco Elysium taking up the Narrative Complexity spot. Thoughts? What games do you think fit these categories?
Thank you thank you. It's good to know how to make a more traditional onboarding experience before you go and break the "rules." Some games are intentionally difficult or convoluted. Some developers just naturally get it and skip to the pattern breaking experiences.
I'm speaking at #GDC!
If you are there, please consider attending the Gameplay System Design microtalks. I'll be talking about Systemic Complexity and I hope to see you there.

I probably default to food analogies so Snack, Meal, and Feast come to mind.
