These first-hand accounts offer a critical insight into the day-to-day realities of economic abuse and help others understand how control over money can devastate a personβs sense of security and freedom.
I teach this module with the brilliant @tylervaliquette.bsky.social, Neyla Fidan, and the amazing support of our #HagueConvention expert colleagues including @anitagera.bsky.social, @HagueExplained @filiahaguemums.bsky.social and @dradriennebarnett.bsky.social.

We have recently seen the Maccabee spirit when the establishment via the BSB tried to crush my colleague and friend @drproudman.bsky.social but rather than bowing to pressure she fought back and won, with a feminist army who showed that we canβt be overcome
They remained best friends for over 60 years. My mother wrote a story about them called Two Little Bears- because their names were Ursel and Ursula. Here is my motherβs obituary amp.theguardian.com/world/2016/f...
A luta continua!
Channukah reminds us to celebrate the courage of resistance of the unsung heroes and sheroes. On a personal level tonight Iβll pay tribute to my mother & her best friend who both fled Nazi Germany as children and gave so much to others despite the hardship they endured in their early lives. 2/3
Merry Christmas! Tonight when I light the Channukah candles Iβll remember the brave folks who fought and are fighting their Maccabees- the #metoo women, Rosa Parks, the Umkhonto we Sizwe soldiers, Giselle Pellicot, the people of Gaza, the protective mothers in the family courts and so many more 1/3
"In the family courts, allegations of child sexual abuse are too often written off by judges who believe that it is rare; instead they are used as evidence that a mother is encouraging children to lie in order to undermine the other parent." tinyurl.com/bdhje7wz
Significant development this morning in how family courts in England and Wales should deal with so-called 'parental alienation', which has been used to counter allegations of domestic abuse.
Reporter @hansummers.bsky.social details the new guidelines issued to judges
Thank you! Sadly Maya has now been diagnosed with a rather aggressive mast cell tumour. She came home from hospital yesterday. Iβm taking her back tomorrow for first session of chemo π’
It is really good to see that the new FJC guidance draws on the 3R model formulated by the US National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, and endorsed by our Domestic Abuse Commissioner in her 2023 report
Harmful pseudo-science open.substack.com/pub/rozenber...
On a personal note Iβm very sad to report that my precious little Maya is in hospital with a large lump that may be a tumour. After surviving an attack by a pitbull 2 months ago this is really a cruel twist of fate π’
βIt actually doesnβt matter.β
Thatβs Richard Ticeβs response when asked about the courtβs findings on Reform MP James McMurdockβs assault.
Tice sides with McMurdockβs version, dismissing the courtβs judgement. By defending him, Tice undermines justice and harms victims. Itβs about accountability.

This is a legal blog about a family court case reported so well by Lara Feigel for @right2equality.bsky.social It portrays beautifully and sensitively the huge human cost of the proceedings for survivors and the harsh process and the unrealistic world created by the adversarial system.
'I'm Telling the Truth' : Part 1
#LaraFeigel shows us why change is needed in family courts. Things many survivors face in private family law proceedings are often unable to be shared publicly.
We want to share with you some common themes:

In honour of #CSAsurvivorSky please can the family courts recognise that #CSA exists, it happens, & it's not the invention or delusion of 'malicious mothers'. Today it's the Anglican church scandal & the real Cleveland scandal, tomorrow it will be the family court scandal, we must listen to children
I am one of #11Million #CSA survivors in the UK. Only when I heard someone else say βIβm a survivorβ could I consider doing the same. Please share #CSAsurvivorSky tag and survivor accounts, as this will help CSA survivors connect. Connection can save lives. ππΌπΈ

Lady Hale in 1999: βThe most troubling aspect of my perception is that some women are being pursued and oppressed by controlling or vengeful men with the full support of the system.β 25 years later it's even worse, via the 'parental alienation' belief system. Legislation & accountability is needed.
βWe are handing out a DVPO as if these people are just going to abide by these rules,β
βAs soon as you issue a protective order, the risk rises for the victim - research shows this.β

We must treat domestic abuse as a serious and urgent crime and stop escalation.
