A short story based on a startling discovery in my family history, which is also detailed here. I look back on the last time that I saw my father before he passed away and find some sort of closure. #writing #memories #blog #ghosts #history #murder #time #maryhepburn #redemption
The picture shows a tabby cat lying on her ownerβs chest as they both appear to be reading a book
Been taking it easy this week while awaiting a specialist appointment for a knee injury, so have been catching up on my reading with some help from Tabby, one of our 12 cats. Jodi Taylorβs Just One Damned Thing After Another meets with our seal of approval!
A new blog post in which we relocate from Horsham to Southampton so that Mother can make me homeless. Plenty of ups and downs before I reach the point of no return and finally break off contact, long after I should have. #mother #writing #memories #1992 #annushorriblis #life #homeless #horsham
There should always be plenty of time for reading!
Thank you! Hope that you've had a good week too!
Yes, he's probably the reason why I first got into horror along with a viewing of Stephen King's Salem's Lot when I was way too young to see it! I find some of his later work much easier to read and not so grim!
Busy but good, so I think I should be grateful! Plugging away at the next book, another chapter complete but I can't escape the feeling that it's taking forever!
I've gone back to James Herbert - have read The Rats and The Fog, both of which have stood the test of time reasonably well and are still as disturbing as they were when I first read them, especially The Fog. I might need to read something a little lighter next!
I need to start setting a reminder! Late to the party as always π
A look back at my relationship with my mother and the time I spent around the stoolball team that she played for. Includes a couple of missed opportunities and the realisation that certain political parties weren't for me. #writing #memories #horsham #stoolball #nineties #sussex #mothersruin #life
Completely agree. Both of my books so far have been based on moments in my life that I have felt needed sharing and I built complete stories around those moments. That compulsion is a brilliant driving force to write!
Not sure I could pin it down to one reason. To understand myself, be understood, make sense of chaos, hopefully entertain, provide comfort and encourage conversations around difficult topics. Thatβs just off the top of my head
I've finally finished my exams and find a job, where I get a punch in the face after messing around with a fire extinguisher. It's a time of change and I make the decision to leave Plymouth, but not before I make a break for freedom with limited success #plymouth #blog #writing #dartmoor #memories

Been without power since around 6.45 this evening and repairs not due to be completed until 3am. Reliving the seventies isnβt much funβ¦
Thank you - itβs hugely appreciated. Trying to make some sense of chaos! Nice to know that people are reading!
Picked up The Rats by James Herbert yesterday, havenβt read it since I was at school. No pun intended but I devoured it within 24 hours. So gruesome and hits hard early on. One of my favourite authors.
It's thirty-nine years tomorrow since I made the switch to following Plymouth Argyle after spending my early years as a Manchester United fan. Here, I look back on my first trip to Home Park #pafc #utba #football #plymouth #memories #sport #manchesterunited #mufc
Judgement arrives in the form of GCSEs and I am horrendously underprepared. I look back on a few sporting moments and my final days at #devonporthigh in #plymouth #trouble #schooldays #memories #life #writing #english #exams #gcse #loneliness #neurodiversity
Iβve no doubt that some of the teachers I didnβt get on with were really good - and often I was at fault! Not sure about the chalk duster at the head though!
A continuation of my recollections of my school days at Devonport High School. A time when I'm shamefully at my worst, still finding trouble and taking on a starring role in a Christmas Carol. #writing #memories #plymouth #schooldays #dhs #stories #devonporthighschool #christmascarol
So difficult, this was my eraβ¦
Warriors of the Deep (yeah, I know)
Enlightenment
Caves of Androzani
Kinda
Earthshock
But I could have probably picked at least another 5
Brilliant performance from the Argyle women's team #pafc
Really up against it at 1-0 down early on but showed determination, class and maturity to fight back and comfortably close out the game. An absolute joy to watch.
Just take a moment to read what youβre about to postβ¦one of my favourites from this month
A look back at my early days at Devonport High School in Plymouth. Includes a puerile but mildly amusing incident with the headmaster and a few memories of Physics and Chemistry lessons... #schooldays #memories #devonporthigh #dhs #PDA #trouble #teachers #classics #physics #chemistry #plymouth
This ref is horrendous tonight
A tense second half with no shortage of effort from every player to secure a deserved win. Christ knows what sort of team we'll put out on Tuesday though...#pafc
Where I learn a harsh lesson regarding swearing and the fact that Palmolive doesn't taste very nice. I also make a stand many years later. #memories #childhood #swearing #writing #blog #life #punishment #survivor #violence #family
Fascinating to see this and consider the decisions that were made for the final edit. Three incredible actors in one of the best scenes in the history of the show. Thanks so much for sharing this!
