As shit just seems to continue to get worse globally, it is really easy to feel powerless against this scale of disregard of human life and the planet. Check in on your neighbours. Share cookies. Offer childcare and a ride to the doctor. Start a rewilding initiative. Participate in mutual aid.
This is a particularly egregious example, but the lack of commitment to truth (aka lies) from people seeking and holding political leadership positions is appalling. And it damages our democracy. Which might be the whole point.
Gorgeous though.
Quack. Quack. Quack. Quackquackquackquackquackquackquackquackquack.
Would you rather:
A politician tells you the truth even if you hate it
OR
A politician tells you what you want to hear even though it’s untrue.
Lovely in concept, ridiculous and expensive in execution. I’ve seen one of my colleagues peddling this image and I find that irresponsible. Being in a decision-making role means you need to consider boring things like safety and feasibility.
It’s great time to build up these skills.
NEW from me today:
Tumbler Ridge is mourning a horrific loss. But how the shooter's identity is being talked about online, and the dangerous links being made to trans people at large, will have resounding and dangerous impacts in the months and weeks to come.

Let this horror bring us together, not separate us.
I’m interested to see the MLA for Richmond-Queensborough enter the race for BC Conservative leader. I didn’t really have a sense of his values prior to now so if anything, we now know what he stands for. #BCPoli
Today I heard someone compare capitalism to gravity and while at first I didn’t see the connection between physics and an economic system, it is true that they’re both pulling us down.
Screenshot of an X.com post by The Associated Press (@AP) stating that dozens of immigrant families protested for better treatment behind fences at a Texas detention facility, where a 5-year-old Ecuadorian boy and his father were sent after being detained in Minnesota. Below is a video thumbnail showing a crowd gathered outdoors along a fenced walkway; many people wear bright blue or red outerwear, and some hold signs.
After being held in two of them as a boy, I fought for decades urging America to never again build concentration camps and put human beings in them. It breaks my heart to watch this happen twice now in my own lifetime.
Me too!

Has anyone read a good book about belonging?
Agreed. And will @globalnews.ca cover this story when they continuously platform him? I wonder.
They’re good dogs.
Need a palate cleanse?
I don’t want to put more people at risk, but establishing this as intentional and a pattern of behaviour is important. And I’m sorry you experienced this too.
The real irony is that Paul Minhas has invited me to several of these groups. Which then proceed to say pretty horrible things about me. Which I know because people send me screenshots like WTF?
This bullying is currently targeted at me, but it’s not just about me. It’s about serving notice about who belongs and doesn’t belong in politics.
It’s also important to add that comments against me really ramped up when I brought a motion about staff reporting back on the TRC Calls to Action and the MMIWG report. To the point random people started asking me what was going on.
And to the media who continue to cover misinformation without bothering to fact check, you’re complicit in this.
Trump-style politics may be alive and well in our community but I am saying that it is unwelcome here. If your leadership is predicated off of misinforming and trying to make people angry in order to target your political opponents, you are not fit to be a leader.
These have been primarily targeted at the women on council, acknowledging that the mayor has got some pretty egregious comments made about him too that would definitely count as slanderous. Again, this isn’t a coincidence, it’s intentional.
A violent comment about me. Following a meeting, one of my colleagues goes up and hugs a person who made that comment. This gone too far and is part of an intentional movement to stoke fear and anger. This is resulted in ongoing harmful, misinformed, and now violent comments.
In New West, the political rhetoric has gotten completely out of control, stoked by the New West Progressives. At our Monday council meeting, the two NWP members voted against me attending a conference about countering online harm and misinformation. Meanwhile, on their social media page, there is
Whoa I hadn’t heard about this, thanks for sharing.
A group of us have been advocating for a municipal ethics commissioner because the impact on elected reps who have identities that are underrepresented. Happy to chat about how this intersects with your piece.
