There is a level of orientalism to it, but I think so long as the outfit isn't sexualized to the point of being bastardized and the clothes are named properly while also respecting the culture in its depiction it can be mostly acceptable.

Me personally I've encountered so much bad faith and maliciousness from people claiming to want to better themselves that I simply cannot assume someone is acting in good faith unless they can meaningfully prove it.
