"Some days I think this one place isn’t enough. That’s when nothing is enough, when I want to live multiple lives and be allowed to love without limits. Those days, I walk with a purpose but no destinations. Only then do I see, at least momentarily, that everything is here." - Gretel Ehrlich

Heartache is an interesting creature. A gentle kind of feral. Longing and loss that is all teeth, a holy reckless howling.

That moment when the book you’ve been hoping for shows up at your local indie bookshop…and your day is so much better once it’s in your hands! (The book is Peter’s S. Beagle’s The Innkeeper’s Song.)

I was biking and paused to sit on the bridge overlooking the Gorge. Seeing this deer making its way through the stream brought me so much peace and joy:

It’s no coincidence that this sign is near a Free Little Library.

Sometimes the historical dictionary offers solace through the existence of an obsolete word that is sorely needed now. One of them is β€˜respair’, recorded just once, in the 15th century. It means fresh hope, and a recovery from despair.

I’ve gotten so many of those spam book promotion emails lately, but today’s was the first that actually got my book wrong….no, ma’am, I am not F. Scott Fitzgerald.

And why do they all say β€œChef’s kiss”?

I’ve been blessed with these two beauties in my backyard every evening for the past week. It’s adorable how they run and play with each other. Watching them has been giving me much joy.

Eventually I did all the β€œopening procedures” and got the sand filter running β€” all on my own, for the first time (since pool guy ghosted me, can’t say I blame him) so honestly I was very proud of myself. This is only our second year with a pool.

Thus OPERATION TADPOLE RELOCATION began and lasted several days.

(They were fast…and I will begrudgingly admit, very cute.)

Every once in a while parents would croak a complaint from within the pool frame.
