The infamous (to me) sex scene is from Deadwood, but am currently watching him in Justified!

Oh you will not be disappointed! His filmography is actually pretty entertaining. I recommend Go, Girl Next Door, Perfect Getaway, The Crazies, Deadwood, his smallish role in Damages, his episodes of SATC and Mindy Project, Santa Clarita Diet, and Alien Earth!

He goes at her with the sort of determination you’d see on an Olympic athlete five seconds from crossing the line, and then as if that wasn’t enough, he sort of shifts his angle like he was thinking you know what, she’s losing her mind but not *quite* enough for my liking.

He does it like it’s his job to get her off. Like he‘s been hired by the devil to get it done or else they will both burn for all eternity, and he means to succeed.

Plus he’s not afraid to use his tongue, his hands and some intensity. He screen bangs that same way too. There is no sex scene hotter - not even ones that are lengthier and more explicit - then him going at her in Deadwood.

It’s the way his mouth moves. He’s not afraid to actually open it and then he really knows how to roll it back closed again. And the shape of his jaw and the side of his face - it shows them off to such great effect.

Olyphant sure can kiss. He’s famous for the one in Catch and Release but I swear he could be snogging a carrot and still bring that same heat.

I just love the way he has inadvertently and systematically destroyed his own fanbase, and possibly his Oscar chances. All of them and prob much of the voting body thought he was this tortured fancy artiste and instead he’s just straight up cheesy shit. A loser. A rich jock wannabe.

The things I watch for actors i like. First Ozark, and now this. Both would get absolutely hammered if they were Romances written the way they are.

Timothy, you deserved better. Hell Goggins deserved better and I don’t even like him. I have no idea how two such great actors were attracted to such thin, mutton dressed as lamb material. Those paychecks must have been sorely needed.

So far theres been one story that held my attention and had some impact - Margo Martindale doing over those suits and then eventually killing herself after her sons are killed. Everything else is as compelling as a cabbage.

And yet still somehow there are never any real consequences for the main characters. People just drift out of major problems somehow. They have all the weight and impact of a fart in a cathedral. All the dilemmas are cheesy and tired, all the storylines go nowhere.

Made me laugh though realising that this show was made in 2010, almost twenty years ago now, and it is utterly replete with the problems people moan fiction is suddenly being assaulted by. And it’s a goddamn crime show! It’s full of drugs and murder and violence!

It’s truly a testament to the sexiness, charisma, acting talent and presence of Olyphant that I’m still watching Justified three seasons in. Because this show is so deathly dull and build up/payoff free its staggering.

Lol listen I have some theories about him. These things exactly what I would look for if I was wanting them proved correct.

You don’t have to stick by someone because you once thought they were good or they turned out evil or whatever else. A mindset that has stood me in good stead wrt celebrities, too.

I remember being briefly excited about Gavin Newsom because all I knew of him were those actually fighting arseholes clips of him. Learnt more and dropped that idea like a lava coated blob of shit. It’s that easy.

Like if you’re embarrassed to tell a twisted love story with sex in it then don’t fucking tell one. If you don’t want to tell a feminist revenge story, then don’t tell one. Don’t serve me up two dead fish sewn together and call them a gourmet meal.

Guess what the only sex scene in the movie is?

A montage lol! She builds up his loneliness and their connection and his nervousness about her returning his feelings, played beautifully by Bale, and then lol it throws it all away on a barely visible montage.

The saddest part is, there’s a great film buried in here. Buckley and Bale are terrific. The central idea - of Frank wanting a companion - works. But a third of the way through it becomes a crime investigation and her being mad at nothing and etc and loses that thread almost entirely.

“Yes I’m doing a retelling of a great film but actually this is what Shelley would have written if she could.”

Lol ok.

All of which would be endurable if the film was at least coherent. It isn’t. Mary Shelley is in the film. Also played by Buckley. She possesses her, for absolutely no reason at all. It makes no sense, undermines her entire character, and seems to be there just to assuage Gyllenhaal’s anxiety.

It neither has the guts to be about revenge, or feminism, or evil men, nor even the acceptance of this milquetoast approach lol. Even that is too much.

Then at the end she screams me too me too me too and you know what the wise old doctor says to her? Revenge is a dead end lol. So there’s no feminist revenge tale and then on top of that it also gets some kind of dig in at the idea of getting “revenge” Me Too style.

Literally none of the rich and powerful men in the film do anything wrong really at all. The only men who do are so random punks in a club, and a cop. And it’s just kind of random, not systematic. When people start following her, there’s no reason for it at all. She does nothing. Says nothing.
