An exceptionally tiny three wheeled Chinese car with a cartoon cow emblazoned on its door. It's tootling along in the bike lane which is just fine as it is hardly any larger than a bike.

No car should every be larger than this.

I suspect the Egyptian geese were left there by a neighbor, but the whistlers are all over the place. There are hundreds on another nearby pond.

Oddly enough, there's a pair at the pond near my dad's place Northeast of Houston.

It’s Not Complicated The mainstream media failed the public during the genocide in Gaza. The Key's editor-in-chief shares her vision for what comes next.

Former LA Times managing editor @sarayasin.bsky.social launches The Key, a new publication about Palestine that will be "a home for journalists who have had their stories spiked in mainstream outlets."

Her opening essay is worth every second of your time: www.thekeymagazine.com/p/western-jo...

For music from the last century, have you checked out the Les Blank documentaries. A lot of them are available on YouTube. I'm partial to the Lightning Hopkins ones and the one on NorteΓ±o music but they're all great.

When things collapse, we're in trouble if we can't find an old manual on how to make insulin out of horse urine. My alternate plan is just to eat chocolate until I'm done for.

I’d agree with you if it weren’t for some transcendent tomatoes i had in Mexico when I used to travel there a lot back in the 80s. They’ve fallen far.

I never read it but my Lacanian classmates were riveted by it in grad school.

Grievance Is All You Need Understanding attacks on NIH, CDC and FDA through the lens of COVID revisionists

Thank you to @joshuasweitz.bsky.social. The origin of the current assault on science and public health has a direct tie to COVID contrarianism. But Bhattacharya, Prasad and the rest couldn’t rise without help and patronage. 1/ joshuasweitz.substack.com/p/grievance-...

A bar, can you imagine! There was a case in TX where state employees were sent to prison for buying alcohol with govt. funds.

Being reasonable for 9.4 million deaths makes you the kind of evil that will get you chapters in the history books for a thousand years. And I sure as hell don’t mean in a good way. But sure, keep buying his cars.

I watched one of my Danish colleagues stuff cheese and a dill pickle quartered lengthwise in a tortilla then heat it up in the microwave. Your burrito posting came to mind immediately!

I wonder if we crossed paths. I was there at the same time as you but mostly at the vet school doing a post doc with some epidemiologists. I briefly taught the sociology classes during a funding gap.

Straight, white, cis-male, and pretty vanilla in appearance which is an advantage in such situations. I know my friends who were not got a lot more grief teaching pretty much the same material as me. I was under no illusions that I had much more leeway than others.

I used to teach sociology of gender at Texas A&M University around 2007-8. I have great memories of students, many of them young white men, opening up their minds. This backlash is gutting.
