I had a thing for TC Boyle about a decade ago. The Women wasn't one of my favourites.
Drop City is great. Also The Inner Circle... and a few more, but two is a good number of recommendations.

A comic-style illustration featuring a close-up of a woman's face with short, vibrant red hair. She has an expression of distress with tears on her cheeks as she holds one hand to her forehead, partially covering her eyes. Her lips are painted a deep pink. The background is a textured pattern, with shades of teal and grey. The image utilises bold outlines typical of pop art, with halftone dots visible throughout giving it a vintage comic book appearance. "I want to be left alone in a way that feels like I'm getting attention..."

The image is a two-panel comic. In the first panel, a person is shown from the chest up against a clear blue background. Their face and hands are covered with a dripping liquid, appearing shocked with wide eyes and their mouth slightly open. A speech bubble contains the text, "oh god the joe." In the second panel, the same person is shown in a closer view with a more intense expression of panic. The speech bubble reads, "it's too sloppy."
The image features a close-up of a person with visible beads of sweat on their face, giving an anxious or nervous expression. The background is out of focus, drawing attention to the person's face. Below the person is a graphic styled like a quiz show, with bold yellow text on a dark blue background that reads, "DID YOU BUY ANOTHER BOOK?" Below this question are four options labelled A, B, C, and D. Each option is accompanied by a short humorous excuse, mimicking a multiple-choice quiz format. DID YOU BUY ANOTHER BOOK? A: It was an accident. B: I already had it. C: I got a great deal on it. D: You look very pretty today.

A black poster-style image features large white block text at the top reading, “I DON’T SHUT UP I GROW UP.” In the middle is a black-and-white photo of four boys standing outdoors, one pointing forward while the others look in the same direction. Below the photo, more large white text reads, “AND WHEN I LOOK AT YOU I THROW UP.”

24 hours passed and ZERO replies from 1,000+ followers.
That’s less than I hoped for, but I can live with it.
No matter what you are going through, always try and help people. So instead of saying “Fuck off” ask, “How can I help you to Fuck off?”
Apparently I have 1,094 followers here. A small group of you interact with me regularly and I appreciate it.
If we haven’t crossed paths yet, feel free to reply with something about yourself, or even why you’re following me, and maybe we can get to know each other…
A portrait shows Jonathan Banks as Mike Ehrmantraut. He appears bald with a short white goatee and a stern expression, wearing a dark zip-up jacket over a gray shirt against a plain light background.
When I first watched Breaking Bad it shocked me how much Mike Ehrmantraut reminded me of my stepfather. Now, as I rewatch the show and Mike becomes more prominent, I realise how much I’m mapping a fictional character onto memories of the dad I never really knew. [2/2]
I was six when I met my stepfather. I feared his disapproval from then until the day I left home at 17½. I know now he was essentially a sweet guy, but I never got to know him. He died about ten years ago. [1/2]
I stopped sharing promo posts as I was told that was seen as spam, now I only do so with work I've read, and only on occasion.
I see your posts. I ❤️ when I can, but sometimes that sentiment is unwarranted. I wish we had an array of potential responses.
When I first arrived here, I posted things I’d normally share with friends. They weren’t here, so nobody responded, and I somehow ended up on a block list for a wide range of alleged offences, including paedophilia. Since then I’ve tried to fit in. My quiet retired life doesn’t give me much to post.
I prefer reacting and responding to others, but I’m often out of my depth politically with people I’ve met here. I don’t follow sport, and I rarely recognise the celebrity faces and names I scroll past, so it’s often a choice between shutting the fuck up or trying to be interesting.
No cheating. your last saved picture of a celebrity is your therapist (if you feel like participating).
I feel like I’m in good hands with David Lynch.

Probably Almost Famous, though it’s one of a bunch that might qualify. 📽️
A retro-style poster shows a woman in a sparkling red sleeveless dress standing against a red background. She has dark hair pulled into a high ponytail, small devil horns, and holds a cigarette while a thin devil tail curls behind her. Large text reads: “HELL HATH NO FURY,” with smaller text below completing the joke: “like me when I’m very slightly inconvenienced.”
A medieval-style illustration shows one robed figure standing and placing a book flat against the head of a kneeling person, as if performing a ritual or blessing. The background is red with a decorative border, and the figures wear simple tunic-like garments typical of medieval manuscript art. White meme text added to the image reads: “now you’re an xbox.”
Everything is an Xbox
An illustration depicting three transparent glasses with arms and legs, each involved in reading activities. In the upper left, a glass sits on a wooden chair, holding a red book with a focused expression. On the upper right, another glass is lying on its stomach on the floor, reading a green book. At the bottom, a third glass sits upright, holding a pink book close to its face. The overall background is plain and white, highlighting the playful nature of the scene.

That’s the aim. :)
A shift south and the odds of a cyclone developing have been downgraded, but it’s not over ‘til it’s over, and we’re set for a LOT of rain in the days to come…
The first time you experience the date of your birth is the day you're born. That's your first birthday. When you turn a year old, you should have celebrated your SECOND birthday. You've likely never celebrated the correct birthday.
I’m having fun with it so far. I’d have been happier paying $69 - $109 is a lot, and for so much I hope I’m drawn to it for months rather than weeks.
