February 20th sometimes sneaks up on me. It changed my life 35 years ago today. I carry the lessons I learned still. Leaders should feel the weight of the decisions they make. I learned that when I sent two men on a mission and they didn’t come back. open.substack.com/pub/fpwellma...
PSA: When Trump brags about “cutting regulations” he means letting his Fossil Fuel oligarch donors poison babies and children to increase profits.

Hi everyone. Just checking in. I am doing well, given all the nonsense. I am monitoring here but have been taking a little content break.
Be resilient everyone.
Oh, and climate change is real. Endangered species aren’t miraculously recovering. And our staffing sucks.
“The Oregon and California Railroad Revested Lands, known as the O&C Lands, lie in a checkerboard pattern through eighteen counties of western Oregon. These lands contain more than 2.4 million acres of forests …”

“Arran Robertson, a spokesperson for Oregon Wild, said the plans governing the management of the federal forests in western Oregon exist because species were being driven to extinction in the 1990s.”

I gave 'em what for.
I edited & rewrote some stuff from Pinchot, left the "Find out in advance quote" education quote, & of course, I made sure to add a whole bunch of additional nothing just for good measure on the side...
Submit comments by March 9.
If nothing else, flood it with Forest Service founder Gifford Pinchot’s guiding principles, particularly “Find out in advance what the public will stand for; if it is right and they won't stand for it, postpone action and educate them.”
Shultz should know these.

A sobering fact: We’ve lost around 3 billion #birds in North America since 1970 — a loss of nearly one in four birds.
And yet, this week a congressional panel is meeting to consider weakening the #MigratoryBirdTreatyAct.
We'll continue to fight for them.

“Steve Pearce is Trump’s hand-picked hatchet man to liquidate the West for private profit. The American people repeatedly say they want public lands to be protected. Instead, we’ve got senators allowing an industry puppet to call the shots.”
The BLM began #logging mature and old-growth forests aggressively under the first Trump administration.
Now, still not satisfied, the second administration has proposed a new plan to more than quadruple the amount of logging to 2.5 million acres of #PublicLand in western #Oregon.

This would mark the first time the #CongressionalReviewAct is used to reverse a management plan for a #NationalMonument — meaning this trick could become a core element in a playbook for going after national monument protections across the United States.

This repeal has no basis in the law or reality. Climate change is fueling extreme weather disasters. The Supreme Court confirmed EPA’s authority to regulate greenhouse gases nearly 20 years ago and courts have reaffirmed it ever since.
The Trump administration is once again putting our lives at risk to benefit polluters. Trump's EPA is repealing its own scientific finding that greenhouse gases endanger public health and welfare, making climate denial official government policy.
The endangerment finding requires the EPA to protect us from dangerous greenhouse gas pollution. The Supreme Court confirmed the EPA's authority to regulate greenhouse gases nearly two decades ago and it has been repeatedly affirmed by courts since.
Today, the EPA abandoned its responsibility to protect Americans from deadly air pollution by finalizing a repeal of the 2024 Mercury and Air Toxics Standards (MATS), a key rule that limited how much mercury and other toxic pollution coal- and oil-fired power plants can release into the air.
One of America’s most visited wilderness areas is facing a full-on assault by the mining industry’s allies in Congress.
Demand that your Senators oppose toxic mining in the Boundary Waters' watershed.
Americans face serious exposure to harmful chemicals that are linked to rising cancer rates, developmental disabilities, and chronic disease. Trump's campaign promised to address this crisis and "Make America Healthy Again." Instead, it is weakening the rules that protect us from toxic chemicals.
Don't let this administration walk away from its responsibility on climate. Take action:
The Trump administration is abandoning its responsibility to take action on climate change. We won’t let them.
The EPA is required by law to protect us from air pollution that endangers public health and welfare – including greenhouse gases that are driving climate change.
Good news: We won a victory in court to help salmon safely move past dams in the Columbia River Basin.
A federal court in Oregon ordered federal agencies to change operations of the Columbia Basin hydropower system in critical ways to help improve salmon survival.
The Mercury and Air Toxics Standards (MATS) saved up to 11,000 lives every year by limiting dangerous air pollution. Now Trump’s EPA is moving to dismantle those safeguards, putting thousands of people at greater risk of asthma, heart disease, and cancer.
"More than a pledge, we urgently need strong policies and protections to ensure that data centers pay their way, disclose and mitigate their impacts, and are powered by clean energy," said Earthjustice VP of Litigation for Climate and Energy Jill Tauber
