Oh also side thought! If you follow the Reddit post itβs basically a PR piece by a playtesting company who posted the initial post.

True! 2 things:
1. We all miss the PS2 era weirdness, there was no rules!
2. Sadly, no one will fund anything not safe.
Also side thought to this; if youβre an indie regardless of success or not and youβve preached with a βthis is what you should doβ thread. Youβve clearly misread the room.
Unpopular opinion, but a lot of this "doing it right" mentality is how we wind up with games all feeling the exact same.
Difficulty spikes, weird controls, ropey onboarding all of it critical to prevent games feeling like they're ground down and pumped out safe mush.

Woah, Netflix really pulling out big hitter hosts for the WBC.
Huh, I didn't know! But, Pon will be there too it turns out π
What the fuck that's so sick.
Played Pokopia until my Switch 2 battery ran out.
Still no idea if I like it, but continually doing menial tasks and cute PokΓ©mon pop out sure scratches some itch.
Itβs true now however, Ditto is best PokΓ©mon.
You've sadly got to do almost everything these days. Make the game. Market the game. Research the market. Hire. Pay. Go to events. Booth. Hustle.
It's really a tough, tough time and if you think it was like what it used to be (or such), you're just going to get lost in the wave of many other devs.
The games industry is a volatile place and for some reason, unlike a lot of industries, your investment doesn't necessarily = return. You have to do your research and risk management.
We collectively, a lot of the time just blindly ignore how many games are being released per day.
Additional so, if you're not doing your research these days - Steam trends, Steam DB, going to events, pitching, reading Simon Carless (and others). You're not doing your homework and you're going to get lost in the weeds of smaller indies who devour that stuff.
Bang on the money.
There's a trend (albeit not maliciously) that let's say "storied" devs who transition out who assume they'll stand out in the independent market.
Its just not true. We all fight on the same battlefield (steam), gone largely are the doing business by relationships with platforms.
Γoo is now available on Nintendo Switch! π
If you have friends who donβt own a PC, Iβd really appreciate it if you could recommend the Switch version to them! ππ£

We literally played that straight after haha. Equally as hilarious and fun.
I played the Wii Uβs Nintendo Land with friends tonight and I was floored by how fun it was.
Weβve seriously lost something. The novelty of a controller that allows for unique local multiplayer situations, was amazing.
Not to mention the lighting!? Its absolutely stunning.
It's crazy to think how streamlined everything is, something that I really notice with modern games and being of similar engines is just the sheer amount of (for lack of a better word), guff that's attached. Everything feels a bit more stodgy.
Hehe! It was the only console I bought to Japan when I moved here.
Massive misstep for big N. But, man there was some stuff cooking with Nintendo Land. But, only multiplayer.
Also played PokΓ©mon Stadium 2 & the simplicity but intensity of the mini games had us laughing for hours.
This all sounds old man at cloud. But as a game designer it makes me concerned even more where we are going.
Joy is what games are for. Seems to be a second thought a lot these days.
The era of trying to evolve game consoles beyond just the a-typical gameplay input was so much fun. We will never have that again and thatβs a shame.
Not to mention local multiplayer seems to be just a thing of the past π

A very quickly done #pixelart of Pombon, the new Fire-type starter for Pokemon Winds/Waves

Ben is absolutely amazing to work with... and not a half bad animator either π
We're wrapping up animation work on TANUKI and are willing to part with him briefly, before snatching him back! If you're in need of incredible animation, do not pass over Ben.
Mate youβre absolutely one of the best and I hate this. Iβll take the beer and then buy you one exact same size and toast to ya. Amazing run, but too fucking short. Canβt wait to see what youβll figure out next.
i just donβt understand.
Alex is one of the absolute, be and end all greats of games journalism. I do not understand. But, the fortune here is - if you have space youβre gaining one of the best in the entire industry.
He has your permanent face haha
Very sad to hear that Rob Grant passed away. Red Dwarf is built into my formative years from having no idea what it was, or why it was funny. To making friends because of it. Then to reading the books. Just an amazing piece of work.
I had a very similar thought when playing the medal-pusher one, I was like... oh i get it, it's balatro with different skin. Wait, what's special about this?
Man, Fury Road. God damn just perfection.
Haha riffinβ on my own post, but I keep thinking about it.
Being 46 years old and launching 2 absolutely industry changing (if not world changing) products. Having already had an immense career π
Jesus.
Considering his relationship with Big-N, I doubt it π
Personally, I liked to google the following games and their release dates:
- Super Mario World
- Ocarina of Time
- Mario Galaxy
Then google Miyamoto san's age at those dates:
- 38 years old
- 46 years old
- 55 years old
Keep creating. Others will. You don't know what is peak!
