Happy to do my best to answer any other questions you have… but I am not an OTP expert. It was AtomVM that got me interested in the beam. Early on I was just focused on learning how AtomVM worked, but I fell in love with Erlang and have been learning more about OTP.

We do not ship an erlc module, all compilation is done on the development host using erlc from OTP. The compiled applications are packed into .amv files (packed beams and resources) using our tooling (rebar3 and mix plugins). These packed files flag the start module and function for the VM.

Sorry, I didn’t see your post sooner. AtomVM doesn’t have an erts library, most of which isn’t really practical for microcontrollers… we do include an epmd module for microcontrollers (on the Unix port of AtomVM we rely on an OTP installed epmd).
