Hear it out. Biology is largely transitioning from a strict, warfare model of the microbiome (kill the germs) to a systems management model (nurture the garden). Health is not the absence of microbes; it’s the presence of a balanced assembly where diverse traits map to hologenomes.

Biologists have largely shifted the perception of a closed self system in the macro-world and started seeing it for what it is. If you are not accounting for the context-dependent, feedback effects in holobiont biology, your models and concepts are incomplete at best and noisy at worst.
