When my wife was pregnant with our daughter, we’d give names to our parents so they’d stop asking which names we were thinking of.

Perpetua and Felicity were at the top of that list

I then went through the Litany of the Saints.

Trump’s War on Iran Could Screw Over US Farmers The Middle East supplies a huge amount of the world’s fertilizer. Conflict in the region has sent prices soaring ahead of the critical spring planting season.

there's a lot going on right now but did you know a massive amount of the world's fertilizer flows through the middle east, and did you know that that fertilizer needs to be shipped to the us *right now* for planting season, and uh did you know we are at war with iran

I think this was a faux pas. He clearly should've worn his more somber, black cap. In that, the situation would've been elevated.

Few things piss me off more than people invoking religion to justify immoral actions.

1/ Anyway, this reminds me of a story I read about James Mattis in Trump's first term.

During a meeting in the Situation Room, Trump angrily ordered the military to assassinate the entire government of Syria.

I remember working from a poor copy of a MS and was stuck for what seemed hours on what I thought was an abbreviation. Turns out, it was a blot the copier had made.

Please make sure to cry away from your work when you can’t make sense of an abbreviation so you don’t stain your own paper.

Or was that just me?

#ReliefWednesday - Sassanid relief depicting the triumph of Shapur I (r. AD 240-270) over Valerian at Naqsh-e Rostam, located 3 km north of Persepolis. It is the most impressive of eight Sassanid rock carvings cut into the cliff beneath the tombs of their Achaemenid predecessors.

We finished reading a chunk of Virgil’s Georgics about bees and honey

So, we had a honey tasting in class. Very fun and the kids were shocked at how much the flower affects the flavor of the honey.

Next up: Columella on cheese making

I frame it to my students as I’d be disappointed in them and tell them I will call their parents and tell them I can’t trust their child anymore (which I do!)

I tell them no parent wants to hear that about their child

That seems to get to more of them
