The situation for women all around the world is still very difficult as we see right-wing parties of all shades trying to roll back women's rights and bombing or starving schoolgirls to bring them "democracy" in Iran, Palestine, Cuba. 1/2

Irish Congress of Trade Unions and with IBEC. We also visited the site of an ESF+ funded social project, The Portland Café, managed by Crosscare 1/3
Yesterday, with some MEPs of the Employment and Social Affairs committee, I met with Irish ministers and parlamentarians who work on the same topics. We discussed the main issues affecting Ireland and most of Europe, particularly housing, working conditions, and EU funding for social programmes.
As someone who has been through a similar situation as a former factory worker when the Opel factory in Antwerp was closed, I fully understand how these workers feel, and I will ensure that I make their voices heard, and that the EU knows what they need and what they want. 3/3
I have made clear at every opportunity that, so far, the measures adopted and the resources made available by the Commission are entirely inadequate for the scale of the tragedy of millions of workers all over Europe who have been dismissed in the last decades 2/3

We kunnen niet langer toestaan dat de winsten geprivatiseerd worden en de kosten voor de samenleving zijn. Er moeten strengere sociale en groene normen worden opgelegd aan bedrijven bij het geven van publieke steun en collectieve onderhandelingen moeten gestimuleerd worden. 4/5
Als reactie op deze lobby vanuit de industrie is de EU vol aan het dereguleren geslagen, met alle gevolgen van dien. Niet goed. We moeten juist investeren in groene en moderne productie, in onze infrastructuur en in hernieuwbare energie zodat de energiekosten omlaag kunnen. 3/5
Jarenlang hebben bedrijven kunnen doen wat ze willen terwijl aandeelhouders hun zakken vulden. Nu andere landen die wel een plan hadden, die wel investeerden, ons zijn voorbijgestreven, schreeuwt de industrie moord en brand. 2/5
🧵Zondag zat ik bij ATV in Wakker op Zondag om te praten over de toekomst van de Europese industrie. Want te lang heeft de Europese industrie het nagelaten om de nodige investeringen te doen in het moderniseren en vergroenen van productie hier in Europa. 1/5

- No real, binding legislation
- No limiting subcontracting to 2 layers
- No equal treatment for all workers

The escalation of violence we have seen in the past few months is a consequence of the normalisation of racism and hate speech against migrants. 5/7
ICE agents have now been deployed in Italy for the winter Olympics. We do not want Trump's brown shirts on our soil! But let's be clear: it was not Trump to invent ICE. ICE has existed since 2003, and their agents have been violently abducting migrants ever since. 4/7
Sometimes they wear civil clothing and drive unmarked vehicles. After less than 2 months of training, ICE agents are already allowed to use guns. They enter people's homes under false pretences and present fake arrest warrants. 3/7
