Habit à la française of embroidered silk, with flowers for an absent lover: zinnia (I mourn your absence. Yellow: daily remembrance. Magenta: lasting affection), aster (patience), ivy (fidelity) and Indian jasmine (attachment). Jacket and waistcoat are bordered with gilt-brass cord and fastened with buttons of cast gilt over brass foil.

Habit à la française of red and gold woven silk in scale pattern and borders of gold thread, adorned with embroidered apple buttons. Waistcoat is silk with tamboured Eden pattern and red foil spangles.

Robe de chambre d’orgueil of silk damask, worn over silk ditto suit with repeating apple design.

Habit à la française bordered with gold woven lace and embroidered with gold-gilt thread and foil wings with a border of metal purl. Waistcoat is embroidered with gold and silver-gilt filé, purl and spangles.

keep in mind that while Batman didn't come out until 1939 (I hc that Al died in the mid '30s) there were a lot of other black-clad cape wielders in pop culture, including Zorro! So I definitely see Al practicing carving an 'A' on surfaces with his staff

I remember learning about the Hays Code in film school and how it made it so that any amoral protagonist had to meet karmic justice by the end of the film and going “wow, that’s really silly” and then once a week I log online and see people argue that we need stuff like that now or it’s problematic

A lot of the films made during the reign of the Third Reich in Germany were light hearted comedies and romances.

And I fucking hate, I absolutely cannot stand people insisting that the risk of misinterpretation (often their own misinterpretation) means that work with any kind of moral gray area is too dangerous to exist. This is a reactionary impulse and kills interesting artwork.

I have the headcanon that Lilith liked to work in Luci’s shadow, letting him take the credit or the blame for her actions. I can see her flatly telling him he has to rule. Al, though, wants to stand by his side. Does he have his own motives? Of course, but he’ll still be there ruling with Luci.

Basically:
Lillith/Lucifer = only really beneficial arrangement for one, huge risk of codependency (from Lucifer)
Alastor/Lucifer = funnily enough a more equal relationship, as they are both extremely proud beings who bring up the best/worst in each other!

Alastor has more disadvantages than Lilith so hiding behind the scenes won’t fit him as well - he’s still very much a showman/radio host, he NEEDS to be out in the open to carry out his plans! So taking on a more public position by the Devil’s side is exactly what serves him AND Lucifer

Oh I definitely love and have that headcanon too - Lilith the mysterious queen of the damned with her rousing voice, fully responsible for Lucifer’s larger than life reputation! But Lucifer himself does not enjoy wearing this mask Lillith fashioned for him, even if she meant well!!
