Young people who participated in a sports or recreational organisation reported a 72% sense of belonging to their community, while only 51% of youth who did not participate reported the same feelings.

Donations to sport and recreation charities and non-profits was also amongst the lowest in the non-profit sector at $273 million. This is in the face of declining charitable donations from Canadians: only 17% of Canadian tax filers reported charitable donations in 2023, down from 26% in 2000.
Sport, recreation and social clubs had one of the lowest levels of revenue compared to other non-profits at $524,000. Ranking it second lowest in the report
For every $1 M in output in the Arts, Culture and Recreation sector, 15 jobs are created. One of the highest returns on investment, compared to 3 jobs in oil and gas, for example
GDP per dollar in output for the Arts, Culture and Recreation sector is 1.06 - the third highest sector in the report
