#Birds Rob ‪@robcrank68.bsky.social‬ says today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #StandingInWater, any bird standing in water. What could be more appropriate than the Northern Water Thrush. Late July, it's hunting in the mud as the heat dries up the ponds.

Ruff (Calidris pugnax) with a pretty black 'ruff.' Male ruffs show their shaggy ruffs in breeding season, which can occur in a variety of colours. Females are called 'reeves.' This species is naturally a wetland bird that consumes invertebrates. It breeds in damp grassy meadows and bogland in Northern Eurasia in the summer and migrates mostly to Africa but also to parts of Europe and Asia in the non-breeding season and can go as far south as South Africa (birds that breed in Northeastern Siberia), which is 15,000 km. They are of Least Concern on the IUCN Red List but have a decreasing population trend. In the UK they can be seen in the winter along the coast and very occasionally breeds in East Anglia but the UK is at the very edge of its breeding range. It is classified in the UK as Red under the Birds of Conservation Concern 5: The Red List for Birds 2021. it has been protected by law since 1981.

A cool leafhopper I photographed a couple days ago in Perú. Anyone know what species or genus it is? Reminds me a bit of Molomea but leafhoppers are really diverse.

Sunrise at a favored place on this earth. It's quiet and peaceful there. The weight of the world can be lifted away for a short time. I can look for the occasional horseshoe crab that needs rescued. I can feel sand on my bare feet. Everything is different there from day to day, but the same.

I was glad that I had my wellies on for this one. 😅

Sunbeams shine through beautiful beech and oak woodlands from Oxfordshire, England.

The light this morning was superb. Walking through old woodland with birds chirping, the bluebells & wild garlic shoots poking through, & the incredible smells of the forest waking up just cannot be beaten. It clears negative thoughts & fills me with joy. I hope this photo helps do that for you too.
