Iβm too young to say when the Irish cultural obsession with The Simpsons really began (possibly 1997 when we first got repeats on RTE) but this was surely an early indicator of how much Ireland craved The Simpsons in the nineties.
The list of Irish number ones for the first four months of 1991, which includes nine weeks at the top for Do the Bartman by The Simpsons.
One more Do the Bartman fact for the feed: It spent NINE weeks at number one in Ireland, only one week less than the eventual Irish total of Bryan Adams that summer #TOTP
I once nearly gave myself a neck injury lipsyncing to Do the Bartman during a school talent show audition #TOTP
Everything we didnβt hear in that top 10 is absolute class. Xpansions, 808 State, Nomad, bangers all #TOTP
Because lord knows the Immaculate Collection needed another bit of promo #TOTP
Jesus what a song though. What. A. Song. #TOTP #massive
This was the fourth time that All Right Now had been a Top 40 hit (70, 73, 78 and 91) and a reissue had missed during the 80s too. Bizarre how enduring it was #TOTP
Only 748 copies separated Boyzone and Geri Halliwell from the top spot btw (142,901 vs 142,153) #TOTP #pickyourpoison
I Want It That Way putting the UK crop of boybands to complete shame #TOTP
Top 3 spots all occupied by boybands there #TOTP
POP QUESTION for anyone who was around at the time or who just knows:
The Witch by The Rattles (1970). Brilliant record. But was the male or female vocal version the hit? The TOTP performance would suggest itβs the female, but Alan Freeman POTP recordings from the time are all male. Which is it?

First song played on BBC4βs #TOTP repeats all the way back in 2011!
Hall and Oates discourse on the TL, so nowβs as good a time as any for my H&O story:
In 2019, Hall and Oates watched my Instagram stories for about three months. They didnβt follow me and I never posted about them, yet they were always there for some reason x
Me: American stereotypes about Ireland are so insulting.
Also me: Oh that? That's the local castle. Who lives there? Why, the ivory-skinned Celtic princess with the ethereal voice of course. What? No, nobody has seen her in decades.
Greg Davies: Impress your mother? Seems like a nice wholesome task for a Channel 4 light entertainment show. Surely nobody did something that can never be taken back?
Alex Horne: Letβs see how Oedipus did

This one from around the same time also quite disturbing, but for very different reasons.

Surely the most bizarre and disturbing Top 40 hit of the entire decade, at least in the US. How this got enough industry support to even chart in the first place, I have no idea.
Much prefer the Melbourne video, itβs quite the joyous thing. SAW tried my patience once or twice, but Iβll happily admit I like more of their stuff than dislike.
Truly no expense spared on this Kylie vid #TOTP
88 comfortably the best episode of the night, and they didnβt even play any of the house stuff! #TOTP
Hot take: A song which goes straight into the Top 10 at number 9 is not a breaker #TOTP
February 1988 is one of my favourite months in chart history. It felt like the floodgates had opened and everything was up for grabs #TOTP
A better song we wonβt find tonight #TOTP
Look at Me is a dreadful, misguided mess, but at least itβs a fascinating dreadful, misguided mess #TOTP
