Hazel under story planting. These multi-stem plants grown from hazelnuts collected locally in 2022 from a hazel woodland that appears on 1890 maps. Much slower growing than nursey ones.

Fair play, great to get confirmation and see the fruits of your labour ππ»
Nursey continues to expand.
Goat willow cuttings
Goat willow cuttings potted up today. Cut in February and just left in a bucket of water. Will be used as a shelter belt in a very exposed coastal site.
Doubtful this year, as I have a couple of big spots to plant up and always donate to Tidy Towns groups and like-minded groups/individuals ππ»
Trees are going back in trays as spring starts to kick off. Expanding the nursey this year also. Cleaning and mulching all pots also.
Success with last year's Alder π³ seed test tray after storing in a sharpe sand mix over winter and a 6 week fridge stratification period. 3 large trays now planted in polytunnel. π€
Scots Pine Seedling root system.
Some Scots Pine seedlings planted in May 2024 from a tree that came down in storms in early 2024. Over 2ft of root systems on these which were in a seed tray. Now potted on for 2025. π²

My usual Christmas break is full off potting on saplings and transplanting seedlings. Few weeks of enjoyable work preparing for next year.
Wych Elm Saplings
First batch of some 100 successfully grown Wych Elm saplings heading to some like mind friends. All grow from seeds collected in May 2024 from a large Wych Elm in Oranmore. Trunk circumference of this tree is nearly 350cms although it was pollarded at some point many years ago. π³ #trees #nativetrees
