London’s Ramadan Lights are shining once again in the West End. A beautiful celebration of the holy month and a reminder that our city is a beacon of hope, unity, and inclusivity.

A city where diversity is a strength, and where everyone is loved and wanted ✨💛

Flu cases are on the rise and have peaked higher and earlier than last year. If you are eligible for a winter vaccination and still haven’t had it, please get one now, it’s not too late to protect yourself and your children. Stay safe and healthy everyone!

Flu cases are rising in London - cases are three times higher than this time last year.

It’s important to protect yourself this winter by getting vaccinated.

The NHS is making it easier than ever for eligible Londoners to get their flu vaccine: www.england.nhs.uk/london/our-w...

At-home HPV test kits to be offered to thousands of women in England The home tests will be offered so that women can check for cervical cancer without visiting a GP.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/article... Great news. HPV testing in the privacy of our homes. Of course further testing will be offered if HPV is positive. We can make cervical cancer a disease for the history books

Mounjaro injections on the NHS currently have strict eligibility criteria with BMI over 40 (or 37.5 in certain ethnicities) and 4 out of 5 specific medical conditions. But it’s a first step to rollout and will help treat obesity to prevent the diseases caused by obesity in the longer term

Thank you Charlotte. Some may think it’s virtue signaling, I believe you are speaking out for justice. (Speaking as the daughter of immigrants) If we don’t speak out we are in agreement with the wrong doers ❤️

Exactly Helen. We have known for over a decade that the majority of people when asked where they want to spend their final days, choose home & the majority of people die in hospital without sensitive planning in the community- 19 years of work being reversed & the most vulnerable pay the price

When ICBs were told to make huge financial savings, I was still hoping that essential front line clinical services would not be cut. It’s a sad day in my 28 years in the NHS (24 as a GP) to have been informed that funding for GPs to provide end of life care as part of enhanced services has stopped

This really is brilliant news for our patients. Something that will make a real difference. So many patients taken off already long waiting lists because they got their appointment letter after the date of the appointment- excellent work Jacob ! @wpett.bsky.social

Pleased to have the opportunity to raise awareness of breast cancer screening in our South Asian communities this week. Thanks to the radio stations and Islam Channel and B4U TV for having me on. It was great to speak both as a GP and a woman who has had a recent breast screen. #HelpusHelpYou

Savings definitely aren’t a given and currently we have hidden and very visible unmet needs. I have patients waiting for 5 months to make it on to the hospital outpatient waiting list- a waiting list for the waiting list!

GP role in fit-note process 'questionable', suggests Government review The ability of GPs to issue fit notes and deal with work and health issues is ‘questionable’, according to a Government-commissioned review.

www.pulsetoday.co.uk/news/workloa... I agree with this. There’s so many factors currently such as long waiting lists for operations. GPs are not occupational health specialists & especially where mental health is concerned, we may not have the knowledge to state that no work can be undertaken

On this holy night in the Islamic calendar, I pray that the innocent people being murdered in Palestine and Ukraine and all those oppressed in the world, get their justice, if not in this world then in the next. May we be forgiven for not using our voices more and helping our brothers and sisters

“Getting the balance right between reform led by ministers and improvement led by staff within the NHS, will not be easy” the abolition of NHS England may be effective long term but with all change, we need to ensure this doesn’t distract from purpose of the NHS:to provide healthcare for patients

19.03.2025 13:48 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0

Throughout the inevitable disruption that this huge reform will cause over the next 2 years, even if there are long term advantages, we need to ensure patient outcomes don’t get worse- more locally 50% job cuts in ICS is a huge concern for frontline workers and patients

“It’s almost inconceivable that ministers will seek to run the NHS day to day, so some operational function will have to be devised-perhaps like the previous NHS executive who worked inside the department” With NHSE being abolished, the question is what will replace its functions effectively?

People in most economically deprived households have twice the number of long Covid sufferers compared to people in the wealthiest households. A stark reminder of Health inequalities and policy makers and the NHS needs to do much more to address this injustice

The GP partnership model: is it still fit for purpose?
The GP partnership model: is it still fit for purpose? YouTube video by Nuffield Trust

youtube.com/watch?v=gw8r... Got to watch this session as couldn’t make it in person with Ramadan commitments. Many issues eg : lack of trust around GP partners managing their finances, the centre wanting more control over GPs & younger GPs worries over risk - shame there were no partners on panel

Small, intentional, consistent steps practiced daily- is actually the key to success in most aspects of life.We need to value the grind as much as the grand- real leaders walk the talk and there are many, quietly running GP practices or departments in hospitals & community trusts- we must value them

The increased item of service vaccine fee won’t help practices in deprived areas (whose uptake is lower and harder to achieve as @drgandalf.bsky.social explains) Inverse care law in action. Over 1 year since I had to give up my practice as it wasn’t financially viable & health inequalities widen
