I write about socialism, Marxism, International relations theory etc. Recent books: Historical Dictionary of Socialism, 4th ed (Rowman & Littlefield, 2024); Harold Laski, the Reluctant Marxist (Palgrave Macmillan, 2024).

Wasn't it a slow death, starting with Thatcher's eagerness to make Britain into Ronnie Reagan's unsinkable aircraft carrier?
and this guy says he never gets bored.
No, but since it came out in 1974 her "Angie Baby" has kept on entering my head. I know not why.
This looks like an important article. It explores a crucial aspect of legitimation as a means of consolidating support or at least acceptance by significant sections of the populace.
It is legitimizing and normalizing it because it is part of it. (Sorry for all the "it"s.
Its refreshing to read cases of justice in today's world: paydayreport.com/rio-police-c...
This makes Gramsci on hegemony as important and significant as ever or, perhaps, more important and significant than ever.
And if the academic paper is dead, and so they are no longer written, then AI will not be able to feed on any such papers after today. AI can only write new stuff if it has new stuff to feed on. Science will end in 2026.
Its looking good!
Looking forward to reading it. I enjoyed your excellent "The Women in the Room".
As you use the word "must" Jo, I assume that this is the categorical imperative, that its a font size that everyone would choose for this volume. Sorry for that awful attempt at a joke; I just couldn't resist.
It is indeed timely and important. It should be read not only by academics researching the far-right in contemporary politics, but also by mainstream politicians.

Rubio's neglect of and disrespect for the indigenous peoples of North America in his speech was disgraceful.

Marx returns to this criticism of capitalists and their attitude to women in The Communist Manifesto, Part 2, even mentioning prostitution; so this is very relevant to the Epstein files.
Yes, pp. 37-39 of your Why Read Marx Today comments on this very well, thanks.
Please can you give us dates of publication of the books Ralph? It would help indicate the historical context in which they were written and published.

Well done Anneliese.
That's awful, no wonder he was so depressed.
Poor man, I didn't realise, sorry.
"Everything"? However poorly he was how could he hate those lovely giant tortoises?
I like this review and I think I'd like the book. The final sentence of the second paragraph of the review offers a concise summary of the book's intentions. Good critical theory I think.
I'm not sure if this is the sort of thing you are thinking of, but how about thought experiments in philosophy? See plato.stanford.edu/entries/thou...
As you end with ellipsis, it tempting to extend your sentence Markus, so hear goes: ...because we would refuse to do the fighting for those who pretend they can imagine such a being in order to dominate us and thus gain and sustain their own power.
I don't think it tells us much though, as "conceivable" is usually taken to mean something like possible to imagine of believe. I can imagine or believe in lots of things that don't actually exist.
Sorry to hear this sad news Cath. Nobody can take away your nice memories of your friend.
Yes, and with the mysterious "impact" criterion to add a bit of confusion to the punishment.
