We find that ndividuals with worse contrast sensitivity due to severe central visual field loss exhibit less conscious movement control and greater and more variable head-in space and trunk accelerations.
Starting the year off with some publications! In a fun collaboration with @kate-agathos.bsky.social, @tobyellmers.bsky.social and Will Young, we looked at changes in gait-specific attention in individuals with maculopathy. authors.elsevier.com/c/1mPew3RoQ8...

Texas AG Ken Paxton hired a former staffer to work on a recent case. As a state employee, her labor would have cost taxpayers $641.
As a private attorney, Paxton allowed her to bill $3,780 an hour, so that day of work cost taxpayers $24,570.

having a great time at @vssmtg.bsky.social !
Looking forward to see many colleages again this summar at the Eye Movements GRC www.grc.org/eye-movement...
Still time to submit an application until June 8th!
The research enterprise is invaluable. We can easily see its importance in the cures or technologies available today. But sometimes it's difficult to see what research brings to people in the shorter term. Here is one of our participants talking about what it's meant to her. youtu.be/Yn9ywYj3UYQ
Scientists are now organizing events, called Stand Up for Science, on 7 March in Washington, D.C., and state capitals.
So far, they have attracted more than 100 volunteers from some 30 states who are hoping to rally support for research as a public good. scim.ag/4328LAD
Fellow scientists, please consider speaking w/ media about what this means for "regular Americans." The link below is to contact a reporter who's collecting stories about the unfolding NIH situation - pls share anonymously or on record. @anniewaldman.bsky.social www.propublica.org/people/annie...
If youβve been directly impacted by a pause or cancellation of an NIH study session, we @forbes.com would like to talk to you
If youβre negatively impacted by these NIH developments find a congressperson here and let them know πspoiler alert youβre all impacted science.house.gov/committee-me... hereβs a relevant senate committee too www.commerce.senate.gov/members

Great Hall at the Detroit Institute of Arts
Detroit gets a bad rap, but its cultural institutions, like the Detroit Institute of the Arts, are world-class.
Take in a massive mural by Diego Rivera, through the door to find CΓ©zanne, Degas, van Gogh, Monet & Renoir, then linger in the Great Hall. Glad this gem survived the city's hard times.

A collage of images with text about "Giving Tuesday". The collage features 3 images. The first image is of a person hands reading braille. The second image is of a person walking with a cane. The third image is of a clinician pointing to a patient some information in a notebook. The text at the bottom describes ways to participate in SKERI's Giving Tuesday campaign. Participation includes donating to the Bill Gerrey Makers Fund, volunteering at SKERI, participating in research and sharing on social media.
Here are ways to participate and support SKERI's #GivingTuesday campaign this year!:
1. Support scholarships and accessibility projects by donating to the Bill Gerrey Makers Fund: www.ski.org/bill-gerrey-...
2. Volunteer at SKERI
3. Participate in our research
4. Share our campaign on social media
Me, please!
Would love to be added please!
Please add me as well!
Only 3 weeks left to apply for SKERIβs postdoc fellowship (apps due 1/31/24! www.ski.org/what-does-fe...)! To celebrate, weβre kicking off a month-long series showcasing research from our brilliant postdocs and mentors. Stay tuned! #InnovationForInclusion #VisionResearch #Fellowship
