White shorthair cat sitting in a square metal basket lined with a red pillow.
Oh to be a kitty in a basket, content in the queue to connect to the collective brain cell.
It's very fun!! The contestant list just dropped too, check it out and join the fun.
Some plants do get most of their water from mist, and you are what you eat. Welwitchia looks demonic enough too.
#2026MMM BRACKET DROP DAY!!!
#2026MMM needs to see this!
Inspired by this post and the 2026 Winter Olympics.
Tina and Milo! A pair of Stoats / aka Eurasian Ermine, this year's official mascots.
Went a little cartoony in the face with this one, just impossible not show how cute and happy they are. π₯°

a slide with 3 pictures of schools with brightly colored murals stacked on top of one another under the words "Schools in service area". On the other side of the slide, a blank wall of a school under the label "Our partner"
Alright bsky science + art community, I need your help.
I was p confident we could get a grant to fund our upcoming biodiversity mural in Kensington. Last night, they called to say our partner school is 2 blocks outside of their service area.
But ya know what? We're gonna do it anyway.
This day always brings a smile to my face :)

Look closely and you'll spot a mantis among the gravel! You're looking at a species likely in the Eremiaphila genus, joining fewer than 600 other observations on iNaturalist.

Two watercolor paintings, representing the San Francisco Leafcutter Bee approaching a Chaparral pea and Hunt's bumblebee sitting on a white-stem frasera.
Close up of the watercolor of leafcutter Bee approaching a Chaparral pea flower
Working on #California #native #pollinators these days. A San Francisco Leafcutter Bee on Chaparral pea and Hunt's bumblebee on a white-stem frasera. Lots of fun to explore these relationships in our landscapes. #sciart #watercolor #insect #botany
Sci art or not, I appreciate the suggestion and will check it out! Thanks!
I've heard that name before! I'll definitely have to check it out. Thank you!
I hear you! Photoshop does have a lot of tools, I just can't justify the subscription for occasional use!
Hey #sciart, I've been painting traditionally for the last 7 years or so, but was gifted a Cintiq this year. What software are you all using to paint these days?
Digital painting of a pair of Sandhill Cranes in summer copper-stained plumage. They stand in shallow water running over meadow grasses, next to blooming larkspur, irises, and corn lily. In the background, Ackerson Mountain with its prior burn scar rises above a forest of conifers. The meadow is bordered with clumps of willow.
This winter's @instbirdpop.bsky.social thank you card might be my favorite one yet! I painted a pair of Sandhill Cranes investigating Ackerson Meadow in #Yosemite, where ongoing restoration of the meadow did actually draw in some of these birds during our 2025 banding season!

I've had a couple experiences of someone providing AI generated "idea" images. In both of those cases the use of the ai actually created confusion about what the person expected. To the point of killing the project in one case. I would have preferred they draw me a stick figure.

Watercolor of a Hunt's bumblebee sitting on a white stem frasera plant. There is a rich background of blue and ocre to offset the white flower clusters
I'm calling this one done. Hunt's bumblebee on a white stem frasera, both species native to the Sierras in California #sciart #insect #bumblebee #watercolor #science
Needle felted bird, plain all-black.
Needle felted 'Akohekohe bird, black with white, red, and gold markings, and a white tuft above the beak.

Yes. Very much, this. The thing keeping most of us from making art is the ingrained idea that art is something only people more qualified than us can make. Hence, "that's not art, I/my child/my dog could paint this".
My lino block print of a charming Grimpoteuthis octopus, one of a genus of pelagic cirrate (finned) octopods known as the dumbo octopuses. The fins reminded scientists of ears on the elephant in Disneyβs 1941 film Dumbo. Hence their common name dumbo octopuses. The print is 9.25β by 12.5β on delicate ivory Japanese washi paper with visible margin, number, title and signature. The background is black. The octopus is reddish on top, then dark blue, with brown legs are spiralled up and drawn in close to its body.
Hello!
Iβm off to the post office shortly. Need any #sciart? Cause thereβs a sale on this week in minouette.etsy.com and I could have your print headed your way today!

You're doing great, keep practicing and experimenting with it. I like to think of watercolors more as influencing water to do cool things than getting paint on paper
Lovely piece. FYI, putting an nsfw hashtag doesn't really mark it as such. There is a way of labeling it as nudity when you add an image to a post.
