antithetical to the idea and purpose of a university and its fundamental structures
But the reason college professors are supposed to have PhDs, and are not expected to have practical teaching degrees, is that. They are genuine experts you can learn from, especially about their work. The state, any state, deciding what the curriculum is, what courses are taught, and how is
Now obviously, for structural reasons, that already doesn't happen a lot. Obviously, because universities are embedded in societies, they have been co-opted as accreditation factories, so their real effects involve reproducing existing social hierarchies and contributing to hyperaccreditation
It's not to deliver a curriculum. It's not to be high school II. It's not to make it so students can pass a test, like the high school tests at the end. The point, the intended point, is that you learn from experts who are active researchers, pushing the boundaries of knowledge
This stuff is horrifying in large part because of what is intended to do, but even if it weren't - if the people seizing control actually had the best interests of universities at heart, I keep wondering how many people have really thought about the intended purpose of universities
lol what is this
