Biggest mistakes academics make. Tessa, need to be incredibly clear & not undermine your case w unnecessary nuance.
Joseph, we're used to due process after submission (at least a desk reject), but pitching you often just hear silence. Need to be persistent even when getting nothing in response. 7/
Opeds go to a limited elite audience, short form videos go out to a broad audience of the public. Think about who you want to reach and why.
When writing think about more prescriptions than descriptions - describe what ought to be. 3/
Most op-eds are of the form A, but B, therefore C. Everyone thinks A, but they're missing B, therefore we should do C. This is what we know, but here's what I know, therefore here's what I do/what you should do.

First up is @josephfridman.bsky.social on communicating w the public
Whether you're doing op-eds, podcasts, blogs, when you start you're trying to get from 0 to 1. Just start. Then 1-10 find your rhythm & keep doing it. 10-N do you want to keep scaling up, if so how. Small steps at each stage 2/
Title slide SPSP 2026 ANNUAL CONVENTION CHICAGO FEBRUARY 26-28 Global Impact: Communicating Psychology for Policy and Public Good Organizer: Andrés Gvirtz, SPSP United Nations Committee February 27, 2026
Session Goals Empowering personality and social psychologists to effectively communicate their work to public audiences and policymakers worldwide Exploring strategies to translate academic findings into actionable insights for sustainable development and global policy solutions Helping scholars discover how to leverage their expertise to inform critical discussions on the world stage
Increasing psychology's impact on policy and public good - symposium at #SPSP2026
How can researchers communicate with the public, government decision-makers, and industry? Economics tends to have large impacts on policy, psychology doesn't -how can we better reach people? 1/
If you're curious about our submission (alongside many fantastic partners!) to the NSF Tech Labs RFI, we've just posted our responses to our blog, Essential Technology: www.essentialtechnology.blog/p/our-respon...
The focussed research organizations enabled by @convergentresearch.bsky.social are driving forward an ambitious agenda !

And while we were all in one place, we took a few hours to pull some members of the team aside, to ask them some questions about what we're working on, and why. Here’s the video we made about Convergent.

It's been an incredibly exciting year in metascience at large, and for us at Convergent.
Last week, the NSF announced their Tech Labs Initiative.

happy wednesday from new orleans! here's some @convergentresearch.bsky.social Essential Technology art that doesn't hit the feed (only the frontispiece gets shared here) - first from our most recent piece on the @NSF's new Tech Labs Initiative
www.essentialtechnology.blog/p/the-future...
Last Friday, the @NSF released an RFI for a new Tech Labs Initiative, to "build and scale next-gen independent research organizations to advance science."
If you've been interested in FROs, you'll want to see this from NSF:
sam.gov/opp/7332ade9...
"sustained... support to... independent organizational structures operating outside of existing academic, start-up, and industry constraints... a dedicated, full-time team... operational independence..."
This community is building foundational capabilities for technological progress.
Its nonprofit initiatives allow broadly sharing these capabilities.
I am happy to support this mission 🚀
What does it take to identify critical science & tech capability gaps—and then build organizations dedicated to addressing them?

Earlier this year, @parallelsq.bsky.social hosted a research fest.
We began with a broad perspective:
◾️ A century of remarkable progress! Proteomics drove conceptual discoveries and medical treatments.
Listen to what's next!

Proud of @e11bio.bsky.social's early progress here, and excited for so much more to come (that I've seen previews of as a FRO board member 😍).
Optics + expansion + barcoding + AI + molecules = beginning of infinity for scalable brain circuit mapping, with wide implications across science.

Join our team and help realize a bold vision.
Earlier this year, Imprint came out of stealth on the TED Mainstage to share our vision:
What if the immune system holds the key to curing chronic diseases—and we just need the tools to read it?
We’re building those tools.

This June, we kicked off our first-ever UK FRO Founder Residency as an Activation Partner for the United Kingdom’s Advanced Research + Invention Agency (ARIA), @aria-research.bsky.social.

This week's Science to Impact symposium at Ohio State hosted experts in all kinds of science communication!
Grateful to have helped organize this event and heard from these minds in one room. 🧠 🧪
📣 We're excited to share the new lean-lang.org!
Relaunching our website was a key deliverable in our Year 2 roadmap to provide "improved navigation and access to valuable content, resources, and tools." We hope you like it!
