Did you know that today is #TakeAWalkOutdoorsDay? 🚶
Taking walks, especially outside in green spaces, is a great form of ‘social prescribing’. This is an approach that connects individuals with non-medical services, activities, and groups within their community to improve health and #MentalHealth.

I would love for Apple to announce the (presumed) folding iPhone as the ‘iPad nano’.
“And one more thing…iPad nano can actually fold in two to reveal a stunning iPhone on the outside of the case.”

Even when projects are assessed at their conclusion (looking at levels and types of engagement) it feels very rare that projects look at how much *time* is spent on the #DigitalCommunications aspects of it.
I.e. what is the ultimate cost for each click or page view when you factor in staff costs.

For bigger projects I feel that they should not only end with a report that looks at the success (or failure) of any digital comms, but that the success metrics should be established *before* the project commences.
In my own experience, this almost never happens.

It’s common to be asked me ‘How many hits?’ did something get but there is often no interest in wanting more details.
E.g. if a webpage gets 100K hits some people might be pleased to see a big number. But if those 100K hits are only from 1K *visits*, then this might be due to spurious traffic.

Whether it is a single social media post to promote a webinar or a bigger coordinated campaign running for months across multiple channels, people often like to see that something has been published but are far less interested in how it performed.

I’ve been doing #DigitalCommunications as a full-time job for a decade and doing it as part of my previous career as a scientist for much longer.
There’s a recurring challenge that I have noticed regarding the people who request ‘content’ to be put out on digital channels.

Portrait photo of one of the two brick towers of Cannon Street Station that face out towards the River Thames. Blue skies are behind the tower with wispy white clouds.
In the bottom of the picture you can see a train ready to leave the station.

Graph showing daily progress towards 1,000,000 steps walked on my walking pad while working.
x-axis is a date axis from 25 October 2024 until today (31 March 2025).
Y-axis counts from zero to 1 million.
Data points mostly form a straight line with an increased daily rate of steps from early in 2025.
Today I've passed the milestone of *one million steps* walked on my walking pad since I purchased it in late October!🚶♂️
That's an average of 6,339 steps a day over this period and a total distance of about 400 miles walked...all while working.
h/t to @hailley.co who inspired me to buy it.

View of Opus tower block under construction from Cannon Street bridge with One Blackfriars building visible behind it.
London’s skyline changes so fast. For the last five years, the lop-sided ‘1 Blackfriars’ has dominated the views around the Blackfriars Bridge.
Now, the 50 storey ‘Opus’ — part of the Bankside Yards development — is starting to obscure views of 1 Blackfriars from the east.

This is to make it easier for doctors to share this information with patients during a consult. E.g. a psychiatrist can bring up the page on their computer and the patient just scans the QR code to get the page on their phone.
No need for emails or printing out paper!

Art roundup - February 2025
YouTube video by Art_T_Studios
My 11-year old son has been doing so much amazing #art lately.
I’ve encouraged him to make a 'roundup' video that showcases some of his recent output as there are just so many cool things he does now (including model making and animations).

Side view of St Helen’s tower, a square tower block with 23 floors that has a dark, almost black appearance.
This is St Helen’s Tower in the City of London. Completed in 1969 with 23 floors, it looks set to be demolished this year to make way for 1 Undershaft…a skyscraper that will be the same height as the Shard and will have 73 floors.

Graphic showing top 9 podcasts listened to using Overcast app in 2024: News Agents (97 hours of listening), BBC Newscast (78 hours), The Archers (67 hours), The Rest is Politics (66 hours), The Rest is football (60 hours), Upgrade (45 hours) The Times Politics Unpacked (45 hours), ATP (39 hours) and Connected (38 hours).
I think I may have listened to just a little too much politics news this year! 😀
This was partly due to their being elections in both the UK and the USA. I will definitely try to step back from listening to so much politics in 2025 as I don’t think it is generally healthy for me.

My boys have somehow amassed *4* different advent calendars each this year.
I tried explaining to my six-year old that, when I was his age, advent calendars didn’t contain chocolates…they just contained a little picture.
He looked at me quizzically and asked ‘Was that in the olden times?’.

Dipping my toes in the waters of bluesky.
After a year of following way too much political news (UK and USA) across other channels, I need some respite.
So here for books, astronomy, architecture, and content that will calm my soul.
