Ireland’s housing crisis isn’t just about affordability.
It’s about who is allowed to belong—and who’s being pushed out.

Over 7,000 refugees have been evicted from IPAS accommodation in just 18 months.
In Dublin, 1 in 4 new single homeless cases now comes directly from these evictions.

The EU says Ireland must criminalise: Public incitement to hatred or violence, denial or trivialisation of international crimes (like the Holocaust), hate targeting based on race, religion, ethnicity, etc.

Ireland passed hate crime laws last December, but left out extreme hate speech. Ireland now has two months to act or they may be taken to the European Court of Justice.

At INAR, we believe that Extreme hate speech is not free speech, Communities deserve protection, Ireland must meet its EU obligations, We must stand against racism and hate - in words and in law.

Clock's Ticking: EU Demands Action on Anti-Racism Law - what does this mean?

The European Commission says Ireland is failing to comply with EU laws on extreme hate speech and race-based violence. Under EU law, extreme hate speech must be criminalised. Ireland hasn't done this-despite agreeing in 2008.

Ireland's current law, the prohibition of Incitement to Hatred Act (1989) - is outdated and ineffective. Only 5 convictions in nearly 30 years. No law specifically criminalises extreme hate speech.

Extreme hate speech and incitement to hatred fuel racism, xenophobia, and violence. Without strong laws, minority voices are silenced and vulnerable - including those from racialised, migrant, religious, LGBTQplus, and traveller communities.

⏰ Just over two weeks ago, the EU gave Ireland 2 months to criminalise extreme hate speech — 17 years after agreeing to do so.

Ireland would once again be... Rejecting racial injustice: by condemning the apartheid-like conditions imposed on the Palestinian community. Honouring our anti-racist commitments: translating words into meaningful action. Leading by example: inspiring global movements for equity and human rights.

Passing the #OccupiedTerritoriesBill would position Ireland as a leader in upholding international law and human rights, echoing our past actions against apartheid. It's an opportunity to stand firmly against #systemicracism and #oppression.

The proposed legislation reminds us of the 1980s, when Irish workers at Dunnes Stores initiated a strike by refusing to handle South African goods, leading to Ireland banning such imports and standing against systemic racism and oppression.

In 1984, Dunnes Stores workers in Dublin refused to handle South African goods, sparking a strike that led Ireland to ban such imports. Nelson Mandela later acknowledged the profound impact of the campaign, coming from ordinary people taking moral action. #IrelandForJustice

Today, Taoiseach Simon Harris is meeting with Senator Frances Black to discuss the Occupied Territories Bill, which aims to ban trade with illegal Israeli settlements - a significant step in Ireland's commitment to human rights and anti-racism.

The Occupied Territories Bill is a proposed Irish law that would ban and criminalise trade with and economic support for illegal settlements in territories deemed occupied under international law, most notably Israeli settlements in Israeli-occupied territories.
