I read them again last year or the year before. Don't recall cringing. Still good stuff.

Tonight I sent this open letter to the University of Alaska-Fairbanks on behalf of myself and the other signatories. Let’s hope they pay attention and that the message continues to spread to other schools. There is no place for generative AI in education, particularly not in arts education.

Amelia Shadows has never had what you might call a “normal” childhood. For one thing, her dad’s the most powerful dark magician in the world. Which wouldn’t be that bad, except Hans has very strong opinions about how things should be around the house. This new head ghost has got to go, and Amelia may have a surprising ally… Magic and mischief and a life lesson or two from Matthew Dow Smith, creator of DC’s Misfits of Magic and Maverick’s The October Girl.

I get that. Collaborative mediums are always tricky. I hate that unquestionably innocent artists suffer because of the accusations against Gaiman, for example. And lots of people worked on the Potter movies that absolutely don't share Rowling's hateful views. Same for Whedon stuff.

It seems like Fillion and company wouldn't be making as much of a production out of this if they didn't have some way of going forward with something.

I would expect that Whedon wouldn't be involved, other than the acknowledgement that he created the series and probably an Executive Producer credit. There are plenty of other writers that worked on the show still around.

Could he spike it? I guess it depends on the original contracts. Will he?

I'm always bemused when I give a passerby a smile and hello and they reply with, "No, thank you." (Or just shuffle by faster.)

Sincerely, someone who is constantly getting compared to Mignola without enjoying any of his professional stability or opportunities.

I do not expect everyone who comes to my table to buy something. You don’t gotta tell the creators you have no money, they also have no money. You can just make eye contact, tell them you really like their work and subscribe to their newsletter. That goes a long long way!

That isn't an overinflated opinion of how many people would come to see me, just an acknowledgement that I can't afford to travel the country doing shows on my own dime.

I'm always surprised how many folks seem to think we get all our books for free from the publisher. Especially untrue for self-pubbed work.

Likewise, people often ask why I'm not at any particular con. I always reply, "They haven't invited me. If you'd like to see me there, let them know!"

I've never worked with Dark Horse, so I have no great insights into the current shake up. My best wishes go out to the creators and staff that this will work out okay for them.

My sympathies. I run into that kind of thing a fair amount. Only recently learned why. (Late, late, late ADHD diagnosis.) Glad to hear it's not a recurring thing for you

So yeah we’re funded and you still got some days to grab a copy. And if we can get to 100 backers there will be something. I dunno what yet. I haven’t asked @djkirkbride.bsky.social even. But something. You’ll see.

Hate when trained professionals (cops, PIs, spies) in TV/movies go on the run & do NOTHING to alter their appearance. Not hair color. Not hats (a wool cap & a ball cap are solid for a quick change of appearance). Not a jacket over a hoodie to allow for a swift look shift look to throw off pursuit.

Pretty sure bribing doctors runs in the family.
