On the hunt for some eye-opening cooking/food books or documentariesโ€ฆ think Just Eat It, Fed Up, Fat Head, and The Food That Built America.

Nothing with Morgan Spurlock (Iโ€™ve had my fill, thanks).

Got any recommendations? Drop them below!

Me: โ€œIโ€™m using the bathroom, youโ€™ll have to wait.โ€
Kiera: โ€œOh, I donโ€™t need the bathroomโ€”I just wanted to ask if I could have donuts for dessert.โ€
Me: โ€œYou donโ€™t think you could have asked Dad?โ€
Kiera: โ€œWellโ€ฆ he was talking, and I didnโ€™t want to interrupt him.โ€

Oh. Ohhh, the irony. ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜‚

If this doesnโ€™t sum up motherhood, I donโ€™t know what does:

Dinnerโ€™s almost over, and I go to use the bathroom. I'm settling into my rare moment of solitude, and there is a knock at the door.

Alright everyone ๐Ÿ’–

Help a busy momma out, what are some of the best resources, documentaries, books, etc on volcanos.

I got a kid with a special interest and heโ€™s been deep diving into everything about volcanos and how they work - specifically the ring of fire. ๐ŸŒ‹

Leave it to my little one to pack wisdom into a simple question. Teaching history is important, but learning from it is what truly changes hearts.

Hereโ€™s to doing better and watching out for one another.

Rubyโ€™s story reminds us how far courage and resilience can go, but it also challenges us to open our eyes to the spaces and systems around us. Are we making sure everyoneโ€”especially those we care forโ€”is met with love, safety, and security?

I paused, looked at her, and said, โ€œYouโ€™re absolutely right.โ€

Her question hit me hard because itโ€™s such an important reminder: A place that feels safe to us isnโ€™t always safe for others.

At one point, we came across a source that described William Frantz Elementary as being in a โ€œsafer areaโ€ of New Orleans. Kiera stopped writing, looked at me, and asked, โ€œHow could it be considered safer when it clearly wasnโ€™t safe for Ruby?โ€

Yesterday was Martin Luther King Jr. Day, but we didnโ€™t take the day off from homeschooling. Instead, we dove into the story of Ruby Bridges, researching her incredible bravery and the lasting impact she made on the civil rights movement.

Right now, our food pantry shelves are getting harder to fill, and your local pantries need your help to keep serving those who rely on them.

If you have any more questions about what food pantries do and how they help - Iโ€™d love to answer them ๐Ÿ’–

Did you know?

A common misconception about food pantries is that โ€œgovernment foodโ€ is freeโ€”but itโ€™s not! While programs like USDA TEFAP help provide some support, we still have to purchase much of the food we distribute, in addition to relying on donations from our community.

It does! But I hope that if all of us who find this important work together, we can bring a sense of community back.

Relief isnโ€™t coming. Not from the top, not from some distant savior. If things are going to change, itโ€™s on us.
Love your neighbor. Love your fellow human.

Thatโ€™s the only match we have left to strike.

But now I see it every day, social media puts those matchstick children in front of us. Itโ€™s unavoidable. Itโ€™s loud. Itโ€™s right in our faces. And still, the world walks by.

I think about The Little Matchstick Girl, how I watched her suffer on screen as a child, wondering how anyone could walk past her in the snow.

Now, more than ever, I lean on community, especially in these winter months when giving feels natural. But kindness shouldnโ€™t have a season. We have to carry it forward, because trust meโ€ฆ weโ€™ll need it.

Poverty comes from red tape, from systems built for big business, not small people. Who cares about the shrinking middle class? There are โ€œbigger fish to fry.โ€

And thatโ€™s when it hit me,poverty doesnโ€™t come from laziness. If it did, loggers, fishers, and construction workers would retire in comfort. Instead, they limp toward Social Security checks that barely cover a monthโ€™s rent.

But she was told no.
No, because what if she brought trash from another town?
No, because bureaucracy trumps trust.
No, because our small-town dump, still stuck in a pre-recycling world in 2024, couldnโ€™t risk it.

When he passed, years rolled by, and no one took his place. Then, a young woman,a peer of mine, stepped forward with grit and determination, saying, Iโ€™ll do it. She wanted to build something honest, a business rooted in hard work.

Growing up in my small town, there was an old man who drove from house to house, collecting garbage. He wasnโ€™t just the trash guy he was a kind soul, always smiling, always ready with a milk bone for a well-behaved dog. He made work feel like care, like community.

I agree. I am about to graduate and be a librarian. Working for a school that bans books feels an awful lot like breaking the ALA code of ethics. We are going to see a decline in real librarians teaching at public schools. I know I wonโ€™t but Iโ€™ll attend any PTA meeting about it and be a menace.

Oh, how fortunate I am that my Epson printer comes with an โ€œeasy open backโ€, because, you know, nothing says โ€œefficiencyโ€ like having to unjam it every fourth page. How would I ever survive without this feature?

See, my problem is I want to buy a book from every single one of you and I canโ€™t currently do that.

Doesnโ€™t mean I wonโ€™t start though!

Just followed you. Your art is fabulous! I love seeing other peopleโ€™s creativity. As for me, my motor skills areโ€ฆ well, letโ€™s just say drawing isnโ€™t my strong suit. But I do enjoy a bit of crafting!
