Through guiding he has successfully guided thousands of fishing clients and their families on Chautauqua Lake to their fishing trip of a lifetime. As a hunting guide Craig has successfully guided visiting and local hunters for geese, ducks, turkey and whitetail. Craig first started writing about the outdoors for the Corry Times. It wasn’t long before he then received a phone call the Jamestown Post-Journal sports editor Jim Riggs about the writing for the Post-Journal. That started his almost three-decade weekly column Outdoors with Craig Robbins. Each week Craig shares his insight, tips, techniques and news regarding the outdoors to sportsmen and women of Chautauqua County, western New York and beyond.

Chautauqua County, Jamestown Awarded $500,000 Total To Expand Affordable Housing Opportunities Chautauqua County and the City of Jamestown have been awarded a total of $500,000 to help expand housing opportunities. The funding is a Pro-Housing Communities Technical Assistance Grant through the New York State Homes & Community Renewal Pro-Housing Communities Program. In Jamestown, the grant will fund contractual legal services to help accelerate the city’s acquisition of abandoned properties. The legal process required to take control of vacant and distressed properties is often extensive, involving multiple filings, court proceedings, and compliance steps that can be both costly and time-consuming. Dedicated legal support will help the City move these cases forward more efficiently and bring long-neglected properties back into productive use.

County Legislature Increases Income Limit For Senior Citizen Property Tax Exemption The Chautauqua County Legislature has increased the income level for those who may qualify for the Senior Real Property Tax Exemption. Legislators unanimously passed an amended resolution that raised the current income for the exemption from $30,000 to $32,000. The resolution, as proposed by Democrats had originally sought to raise the income level to $38,000. Republican Legislator Dan Pavlock said committee members came to the conclusion that the $38,000 income limit would result in not so much a tax break as a “tax shift,” “It would burden the rest of the taxpayers, and since, and so we had a discussion around what that burden looked like.

The Center’s Board of Directors voted on the decision after “months of careful evaluation and financial analysis” to remain at its longtime home in the Gateway Center at 31 Water Street and to pursue tenancy within the Gateway Lofts redevelopment project. Over the past year, St. Susan Center completed architectural studies, site plan approvals, and detailed construction estimates for the Jamestown Business College property. As planning advanced, Center officials say projected renovation costs increased substantially from early estimates of approximately $1 million to nearly $3 million when accounting for full construction scope and required upgrades, due to substantial change of use from a school building to food services.
