They don't act incredibly confused, frustrated, and evasive about what they're trying to say. They are *curious* about it.

They'll act confused, and then they'll act frustrated that you keep bringing up something irrelevant, and then they try to disengage from the conversation's inexplicable turn to such a strange topic.

idk I’ve seen a bajillion kids movies where the kids parents die & let me tell you, having a convo with my kid about how anyone can die at any time & it doesn’t matter if they’re someone’s mom or dad is way harder than having a convo about how sometimes someone has two dads or whatever. And yet

Some parents would like to see their kids' and their kids' families' identities reflected in age-appropriate films, but I guess those parents can eat rocks.
