No UK eBird records of Rough-legged Buzzard from 2026 yet (below); this species will likely be rarer nationally than Black-winged Kite in future. Both very visible signs of climate (and land-use) driven range shifts #UKBirding #Ornithology
would it not be kestrels? as they are larger than pied kingfishers i think
After further discussion, the conclusion has been reached that the Redstart is a Common Redstart, meaning that I have found Europe's first Common Redstart of the year! Pretty chuffed. Bird was at Migra I-Ferha, Malta on Monday evening

22? Great shot!
great photos! well jealous
Incredible to see two Red-billed Tropicbirds on Fuerteventura today: what a bird! Not often that displaying Houbara Bustards take second place on a day on Fuerteventura
Pretty big debate over this Redstart I found yesterday (either Common [European FOY as of Ebird] or Moussier's [one of a handful of Malta records])
White eyering, Orangish-red tail, orangish belly and whitish vent under tail

Many thanks to Ed Griffiths for the BBC guided trip around BBOWT College Lake this morning. Considering the weather recently we were lucky to have a dry day. It was great seeing new faces, new members, new comers to birding and of course the Slavonian Grebe. 34# species

A nice afternoon in Glasgow seeing some of the wintering wildfowl.
The drake Ring-necked Duck showed fantastically on Queenβs Park boating pond.
The drake American Wigeon was more difficult to locate but eventually showed at Newshot Island. Also Scaup, LTD and Shoveler there.

Nice to have House Sparrows back in the garden with a group of 7 on the fat balls yesterday. Also the first Buzzard of the year for the garden.

Zitting Cisticola - Walberswick
Eastern Black Redstart - Sherringham
Black-winged Kite - Hickling Broad
A very good day out around East Anglia. Much better views of Zitting Cisticola than I had back in August, plus Black-winged Kite, Eastern Black Redstart, Bittern, Cranes and Spotted Redshanks #ukbirding #rarebirdsuk

Cheers to @alpine-swift.bsky.social for ID'ing the Redwing from during the #BigGardenBirdwatch as an Icelandic (ssp Coburni). ID made from brown, dark flanks and extensive heavy neck streaking!
Considering that the Redwing could be a possible Coburni ssp? Very streaked throat and extensive flank patch
Stars of the show of the RSPB #BigGardenBirdwatch this afternoon, with 7+ feeding in the golden light and Redwing in the neighbour's garden. Also Fieldfares, Sprawk, Stock Dove earlier in the day nr Chalfont St Giles/ Denham area bringing me to 99 for the year!

Yeah was really nice watching the birds come to roost in such beautiful light! Beautiful site as well
Chose to try for the Black-winged Kite at Ludham on 4th, albeit in the cold. Great to compensate on a dip of the kite with self found Jack Snipe, Bewick's Swans, a Cattle Egret and plenty of Mallards! Ended with 6 lifers and a few UK ticks, putting me on 180 for UK Life!

Wildfowl were a key highlight at Holkham, where we had 1000+ wigeon on Lady Anne's, a dapper Pintail (m) and 2000+ Pink-footed geese calling as they headed to roost. Surreal to see winter geese in the snow with 9 Barnacle, 2 WFG, Snipe and Lapwing from Joe Jordan hide!

Friend's photo
We then head to Holkham Pines for the Hume's, for which we walked through in rather arctic conditions. After a relatively brief wait in comparison to others there, we heard the Hume's Warbler calling a couple times! Also supporting cast of Water Pipit and Firecrest!
