Also, just not needing to go far for stuff
As a parent, my favorite part is the privilege of participating in other peoplesβ magic. I sometimes (briefly) envy the homes and yards of friends in the suburbs/country but dread the thought of needing to create/organize/commute/pay for all the magic in my kidsβ lives.
But I think that part is instructive too. How does the introduction of these categories impact those properties? How does the city council view a 5-unit residential compared to its previous status as a commercial property? Asterisks would have to do a lot of work, I imagine.
Valid point, but I find it interesting to see the proportional changes as well as how the different categories relate to each other / how the mayor vs council relate to each other.
Can you add the current tax rates to the table of Mayor vs. Council rates?
Fourplexes in the IRC, baby!
In 1999 my youth violin ensemble played the national anthem on the court before a Bulls-Kings game. On our way off the court Bill Wennington bumped in to me a bit as he ran towards the court during the starting lineups.
I similarly read this in the intervals between 3 different wake windows. Now Iβll be able to provide important context / analysis when his 3-6 mo kit arrives next week.
Found out today that I am a NIMBY about car rental centers.
I am *super* excited about this. Please spread the word!
It was a good show!
I wrote a piece for the @thepvdeye.bsky.social about Downtown Providence and its community: pvdeye.org/at-providenc...

The fishmonger at the grocery store (the one whoβs allergic to seafood) told me I would need to buy a shotgun because my 3 y.o. daughter was so beautiful. βWhen sheβs in high schoolβ¦ phewβ
Having an authentic New York experience at the Hudson Yards Shake Shack.
Our side lot (zoned Commercial) increased 5x from the last reval. Went to an informal hearing to challenge and the assessor said the City is pushing vacant lot assessments, that they will get sued, and that they will lose.
Multiple cars parked in the sidewalk behind a big mound of ice on Carpenter street in Providence
Update: multiple 50 degree days later and this is the current status
As the parent of a three year old, I was really looking forward to her not having any memories of this Presidentβ¦ and now Iβm worried about [points at everything all at once]
Yes, both the plowing and the cars on sidewalks are repeat things. Usually the snow melts faster so itβs not as terrible as it was this time around - just a mountain of ice blocking the entire sidewalk for weeks. The snow plowing Iβve reported 3 times, the cars parked on sidewalksβ¦ dozens.
When I 3-1-1 the cars parked on the sidewalk I get referred to the police, so I eventually stopped. But the snow clearing is clearly in 3-1-1βs wheelhouse but seemingly no impact. Status of report remains βreceivedβ and never βresolvedβ
The auto parts place on Carpenter has plowed up both sidewalks, making them impassible for weeks. When the snow melts, theyβll but their cars there.
I have no memories of my mom before cancer. But thanks to the NIH, I have a lot of memories of my mom living with cancer. And for that I am grateful.
I am asking you to act to restore full NIH research funding. Please do anything you can to protect science that changes lives. Thank you for your time and your work for me and your other constituents."

About her huge big toes. About her last big trip to Egypt. About how she liked to get her nails done, even when it felt like an extravagance.
About how her bluntness sometimes embarrassed me. About how she never let us have a pet but then surprised us all by taking us to the animal shelter to adopt a puppy. About running lines with her for the school play. About gardening with her.
About how her Oma loved to watch me play baseball, even when it made her nervous. About how her Oma would sometimes get annoyed with me for being too silly. About how much she expected of her kids. About how proud of us she was.
In May of 2021, my daughter was born. We named her after my mom. She's three now and sometimes asks questions about the Oma she was named after but will never meet. Thanks to the NIH-funded research that made Herceptin possible, I have a deep well of memories of my mom to share with her.
In July of 2006, fourteen years after the initial diagnosis, my mom passed away at the age of 54.
