I'm already pretty distant from social media, but if my project I'm working on ever gets done and gets big, I would probably leave the public internet entirely. Fandoms sound like hell to deal with. I'd rather fade into the background, ignorant of whatever drama may happen.
Theories and "expectations" have had a nasty impact on culture.
They just set people up to get mad when the story the artist tells doesn't line up with whatever people imagined based off "patterns" that don't really mean anything.

This isn't a problem with Mastodon. If an instance goes bad, all you have to do is make an account on a different instance. Since anyone can follow anyone else regardless of instance, all I'd have to do is tell my audience to follow my new page.
Wikipedia is great, but it suffers the same problem that the Internet Archive does. If it shuts down, for whatever reason, everything there is just gone and has to be built back from the ground up.

In the early days, it was excusable that people jumped on platforms not knowing who was behind them. At this point, though, it feels to me like we should really know better and be looking towards decentralized platforms. Most people wont though because they can be a bit beginner unfriendly.
