My sixth free online course, The ABC of Contemporary Capital, a survey of Marx’s political economic writings in 13 sessions, was based on early manuscripts of what later became my new book, The Story of Capital.

The difficult thing is if he was only a stand up comedian he would be a pretty funny one.
#OtD 7 Mar 1921 the repression of the Kronstadt Rebellion against the Bolsheviks, demanding worker self-governance and freedom for socialist prisoners began. It was brutally crushed by the Red Army led by Trotsky and hundreds were executed stories.workingclasshistory.com/article/1072...
Where to start with this?
Perhaps with the idea that "centrists" should or could just decide to magic up policies to boost growth when we've just watched "Labour" try to summon the growth fairy with their stability vibes. 1/2
Ian Huntley has died after being attacked in prison.
There’s questions to ask but right now, let the media focus on his victims: 10 year old best friends Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman, and their parents and siblings who must still endure a lifetime of grief. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...
They seem to have the same twisted relationship to masculinity that they have with Christianity and patriotism. They practice it performatively but completely miss the genuine point of the concept they champion.
Maurice Glasman, founder of Blue Labour - suggesting Iran becomes a monarchy and joins the British Commonwealth alongside Ukraine.
And people listening... like this is normal..
New blog: "Most revealing of all is the report’s own estimate that nature-loss could cost roughly 12% of UK GDP by 2030."
I've written about the latest details emerging from the suppressed National Security Assessment.

The enthusiasm of most billionaire media outlets in the US and UK for Trump’s illegal assault on Iran is another reminder of how deranged, perverse and frankly psychopathic these organisations are.
A little bit obsessed with all the nut clusters currently ‘ashamed to be British’ because Starmer didn’t sign us up to this shit show.
The PM’s latest TikTok: images of fighter jets taking off & dropping bombs while his words are drowned out by guitars from 1985 hit Money for Nothing by Dire Straits (a song about how it looks easy to do things on TV).
What were they thinking? A gift to 1985-style semioticians?
Thanks Keir!
Tony Blair rebukes Keir Starmer for not backing Trump on Iran - saying when US needs help 'you better show up'
Trump and Hegseth should be sent to the electric chair for what they’ve done here. Naturally, Tony thinks we should be helping them.
'Ofwat also said South East Water failed to maintain key infrastructure such as service reservoirs, boreholes and major pipes.'
What are we doing here?
Make no mistake: these aren't fines but forced investment in infrastructure.
Investment is great, it's needed, but it shouldn't take legal action for water companies to do their actual job.
Public ownership is the only option. The arguments against are drying up.
Come on. Does it not seem more likely that maybe two thousand people in London who know each other and work together - often in the same building - have fucked it? Like, I do not think Celtic FC have been shit this year due to declining fitness levels in the Scottish population.
I prefer my explanation for many reasons but the key one is: their reasoning requires a whole society of millions of people to be wankers and idiots. Whereas my explanation works just fine if the actual idiot wankers are a very small group of people who work together in one city.
Ben Judah @b_judah Follow The shift from an industrial society with mass parties whose culture was based around books to an internet society with fandoms based around content is the mega trend of our times. It ticks through political fandoms going viral, only to pop, without the slow thinking, slowly buildup party formation to be able to truly reform or govern. This isn't, of course, the only thing behind the bubble politics of recent years — Corbyn, Brexit, Boris, Farage, Greens — but it is an important and little recognised background. Politics beats like the internet. And now Polanski has gone viral.
The Spectator @spectator X.com Those school children and students of ten years ago, with their highly moralistic, Manichean politics and otherworldly theories on gender and race, are now the voters of today. They are also our first post-literate generation, a demographic which doesn't read newspapers, which doesn't read books willingly, who instead get their politics on their smartphones from emotive TikTok videos devoid of nuance, depth and context. This is the demographic with a reduced attention span that doesn't even listen to radio bulletins or watch the news from reputed broadcasting organisations. & Patrick West
Luke Tryl • @LukeTryl • 3h X We're obviously used to it by now, but the speed and acceleration of the collapse of the two party system remains striking. In our latest poll the two main parties received just 37% support between them. The combined vote share of the two main parties has fallen to just 37 per cent
I see that “we’ve become a post-literate society” in the first two images here is now the explanation for the absolutely comical polling nosedive in the third one. How about this instead: “Your leaders tried to prop up an obviously broken system, and clowns like these two helped them”?
The Thatcherite consensus went kaboom forever in 2008. The precise politics of the late 20th century don’t work in 2026. Our leaders and their media friends fought like lions for fifteen years to prop this stuff up and now they have finally fucked it into the sun. Does that not seem credible to you?

Imagine them still doing this with, say, Ratko Mladic in 1995. And the IDF has been massacring civilians at a rate that makes that guy look more like a somewhat boisterous drunk driver than a military commander.
That prick can pick up a rifle and go and fuck off there himself, if so interested. Not our circus, not our monkeys.
History is going to judge McSweeney very badly for being so close to this
The same idiots who had never set foot in Afghanistan but who told Americans that dominating Afghanistan militarily would be a cake walk are the same idiots who have never set foot in Iran but are telling Americans that dominating militarily Iran will be a cake walk.
There is “no evidence that attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is overdiagnosed in the UK” and the condition could even be “underdiagnosed”, a team of experts has said
Kemi Badenoch: "we have put our bases in other peoples countries, we've put bases in Bahrain, we've put bases in Cyprus, so they are being dragged into this because of our bases"
True, & the US has bases here & we're being dragged in too.
Theres a simple solution to all this.
MASSIE: “Iran is not Venezuela. The Ayatollah was not a president. He was a religious leader… 🇺🇸 & 🇮🇱 turned him into a martyr, expended billions, 6 🇺🇸 families must now lay to rest their sons & daughters. And for what? This administration can't even give us a straight answer.”
