Graham Roope made 120* at Byfleet in 1973 against Worcs. The 3rd highest innings in the John Player League by a Surrey player.
Good article on a certain US-based cricket fan in there too! Hopefully will raise the profile of your podcast, a great listen as your enthusiasm for the game shines through.

The Nightwatchman
Anyone picking up a copy of this quarter’s Nightwatchman can read my article, marvelling at the performances of Indian teenager Vaibhav Sooryavanshi but asking whether he could have done it on a wet Sunday afternoon in Tring.

Great read and highlights the difficulty in continuing to develop post under 19 level.
A very talented group, would love to see some of them playing county cricket over the next couple of years.
Should be a scramble to sign Usman Tariq.
Dipak Patel was the first player in the John Player Sunday League to score a century and take 4 wkts in the same match (1982 for Worcs v Hants).
Also made a fifty and took 5 wkts in a JPL game the following season, joining only 4 others to achieve that feat.
Fantastic series, (briefly) reinvigorated Test cricket after attritional 1950s

The trip drew good crowds, particularly on the smaller islands.
Kent retained their JPL title in the 1973 season, but there was no repeat visit to the Caribbean, instead they had to content themselves with a weekend in Paris.
The other victories came against Trinidad u25s, Tobago (where local schoolchildren were given the day off to attend) and St Lucia.
The closest of the defeats came at Bridgetown on 13 January. Barbados made 173/8 thanks to 97 from Geoff Greenidge. Kent fell 13 runs short.
They posted over 200 runs only once, in a 30 run win in Antigua, on a beautiful batting track prepared by prisoners. Brearley (82) and Boyce (52*) top scored for Kent, with 23 year-old Vivian Richards responding with 63 for Antigua.
Of the 11 matches played over the JPL format, Kent lost all 7 against the first-class sides, and won all 4 against the lower level opponents.

53 years ago today, the 1972 John Player League champions, Kent, played the first of 11 matches in the West Indies.
With Denness, Knott, Underwood and Asif Iqbal on test duty, Kent drafted in Brearley, Boyce and Dudleston; Cowdrey joining the group later in Trinidad

First saw this album in my dad’s collection as a youngster and assumed Frank must have popped round our house to record it before I was born.
Great memories. You saw 4 of the best. The JPL was the perfect competition for families, either in the ground or watching on BBC2.
